Grow Heathrow eviction Resisted Successfuly!!

Steve Pixy | 16.08.2014 15:23 | Climate Chaos | Free Spaces | London

Eviction Resisted successfully on Friday 16th August.

From the tower I couldn’t see what went on at the main gate, but the whole site was secured by a good number of folk (50 – 100 odd?) and a local 15 year old d-loched herself to the front of the baracaded gate.

Lots of music and fun was had by all!!

There was a lot of press and local support outside the baracades. We’re not sure if any bailiffs turned up,but if they did, they didn’t make themselves known to anybody. Some security guards did show up and went round the back of the site, but they were interested in making sure nothing happened on an ajoining piece of land during any eviction attempt. A few police vehicles passed by throughout the day but from what I could see, didn’t even stop or get involved.

The landlord did turn up to have a look, but didn’t speak to anyone, and quikly went away again after accepting to take some paperwork from the residents.

It seems we must have looked to be to much trouble for him to try evicting!

It still isn’t safe and the bailiffs may turn up any day, so more support is always needed, and there is a phone tree set up for any emergencies,
Go check their website for all the details!

Can l suggest if any security, ballifs or agents of landowner turn up,try get photographs in my expirience ballifs and security are very wary if a camera is within 20ft of them. Any ballifs or agents for landowner should produce ID check it carefully. It hurts them even more if photographs are published online with names.

All the best in resisting money grabbing landlords and the devolopers.

The expected destruction and the problems we face.

18.08.2014 09:45

We expect around 800 homes to be destroyed as well as a church and six listed buildings of historical interest.

In effect the village will cease to exist. John McDonnell, MP for Hayes and Harlington has suggested that up to 4,000 houses would actually have to be demolished or abandoned and although BAA have committed to preserving the Grade I listed church and tithe barn at Harmondsworth we have little faith in their words.

The previous campaign which focused on people buying small plots of land to ensure multiple compulsary purchase orders (CPO) has now been abandoned because so many of them simply accepted the one time offers made by BAA. This tactic by BAA has been highly effective with the original group of Sipson protesters now reduced to a core group of 23 of which only 14 are prepared to commit to never selling. Serving 14 CPO is going to be very easy and the legal advice we have received is that it will take no more than two weeks.

Although there is no immediate threat to the homes we expect that to change in around six months, the fight is back on !

Getting the message out to everyone

Regretfully we are currently losing the battle to convince people of the problems related to air travel with even Greenpeace no longer worried about their staff using aircraft on a regular basis. One of Greenpeace’s most senior executives commutes 250 miles to work by plane.
Pascal Husting, Greenpeace International’s international programme director, said he began "commuting between Luxembourg and Amsterdam" when he took the job in 2012 and currently made the round trip about twice a month.

The flights, at 250 euros for a round trip, are funded by Greenpeace, despite its campaign to curb "the growth in aviation", which it says "is ruining our chances of stopping dangerous climate change”.

A losing battle

19.08.2014 12:41

The really disapointing figures concerning the big rise in air travel across are upsetting and I know that the opposition to Heathrow expansion is nowhere compared to what it was a few years ago. The Tory party sneaky tactic of saying they had abandoned the new runway plan while at the same time letting development and preperation go ahead was one that few of us anticipated but in addition to that the rise of the low cost carriers like Ryanair and Easyjet has attracted far too many people to air travel who would in the past have been unable to afford it. The leaked report from NATS in Swanick revealed what a number of us had suspected all along, it is not a choice between a new runway at Heathrow or a new runway at Gatwick, the government is planning on allowing both while increasing the number of night flights at Stanstead. In the next 15 - 20 years this country is going to see one of the biggest expansions of aircraft traffic in its history. The number of slots as they call them at Heathrow will rise by just under 30% and those at Gatwick will double.

All of this will lead to a catastrophic increase in noise, distruption, traffic and climate change emmisions. I fear for the world of my grandchildren and children.

You seem to be very focused on the fact that low cost airlines are now letting a greater proportion of the population experience the joys of visiting other countries, cultures and peoples. Why do you think that is a bad thing ?

I much prefer a world where this is general low cost mobility for all and not just a privilleged elite as has been the case for the history of air travel.

In truth air travel contributes very little to climate change gas compared to energy production and farming so perhaps there are more important targets than a family going off for two weeks in Portugal on their summer holidays via Ryanair ?

More than a little confused
