OVER 2000 MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN ARE LIVING AGAIN IN THE CALAIS JUNGLES WITHOUT EVEN WATER, NOR ENOUGH FOOD, TENTS, ETC.

There are over 2000 migrant people in Calais, more than in 2009 , and their number is rising. The main difference is that there are many more women and children now. They are living in makeshift camps in appalling conditions. Calais jungle is back, and full of people. Most of them are refugees from the most war torn countries in the world. The local associations who support the migrants are struggling to cope as there is not enough food, not enough tents, not enough blankets, nor clothes, nor shoes. People are hungry all the time and in most cases they don’t even have access to water. With winter coming the situation, already more than critical, will become untenable. The coming winter is to be extremely cold, according to forecasts.

POLICE VIOLENCE AROUND THE PORT HAS ESCALATED TO APPALLING LEVELS

There are, daily, hundreds of people running after lorries even in broad day light, or climbing the port fences. Scenes like we never saw in Calais, reminiscent of Ceuta and Melilla. Such is the desperation to get into the UK. Very few people are crossing, due to increased police presence around the port. 300 migrants took the ferry port by assault: 100 managed to get in but they were all stopped and escorted back out by police and port security. The UK has promised 15 millions to fortify the border more. The police’s reaction to the augment of people trying to cross has been to further escalate violence against migrants whenever they find them in the zones of passage. Use pepper spray more often. Beat people up harder. We have many reports of such violence, including broken bones.

These people need to claim asylum in France or to go home. Leftist numpties merely make the situation worse.

Explain

22.10.2014 17:09

So the choice they are making is to :

a) Claim asylum in France where they will be given housing, food, medical cover and security

or

b) live in a makeshift camp with no sanitation, food, security, medical support in the vague hope of getting to the UK where they will live the same life they will live in France.

Do you not feel you have a responsibility to educate them ?

Confusion unlimited

Simple economics

22.10.2014 18:06

Why the UK ? In a word money.

In France they operate a system that is much more tightly controlled compared to the UK so firstly immigrants get less benefits in France (with no support for overseas dependents) and secondly because France has ID cards there are far less opportunities for untaxed cash working.

Some migrants are quite happy to discuss this if you ask. The people at Calais are probably 85% economic migrants with only about 15% true asylum seekers.

Most have set plans depending on which country they come from but the basics are same:

Get to UK
Claim asylum
'Black' work to top up benefits
Get NI number
Bring over wife and children

As ever, follow the money

The roll of the Red Cross

23.10.2014 04:40

One of the major problems has been the re-establishment of the Red Cross centre in the immediate area. (an organisation formed from Christian Church involvement). Up until that time there was no food or medical support for peoples so they tended not to congregate in Calais however now they know they have the chance for at least two hot meals a day so they can stay.

The only way this current situation will be solved is an immediate policy of allowing all the current migrants tio come to the UK and claim asylum as is their right.

The answer

23.10.2014 08:51

As somebody who has worked with migrants in the UK I would strongly suggest they are first educated about the racism and prejudice they will face here should they make the crossing from France. This shitty country is now bankrupt in real terms, has a health service that is on its knees and a police force that is bordeline military. The Tories are more than likely to win the next election in coalition with UKIP and that will mean the UK will leave the EU within the following five years meaning that the economic situation will only get worse.

For those who are fleeing war, slavery, oppression and hunger France is a much better option for them. France still has some Socialist values, has strong trade unions and legislation that protects workers as well as much better pensions.
