Picwant, the app that lets you upload and sell photos and videos

6glab | 02.12.2014 13:30 | Technology

Now anyone can make money from photos and videos taken on their Smartphone

Picwant is the app designed to allow anyone to post photos and videos taken with smartphones and sell them online at picwant.com to publishers, companies, bloggers or advertising agencies. Picwant is available free of charge for iOS and Android devices and already has over 1,000 registered users, over 120 ‘Pickers’ authorised to sell their images and, out of thousands of video and photos analysed, it has more than 2,300 images and videos approved for online sale.

Getting started is simple: just download the free app, register and submit at least 10 items of content (images, videos or both). If at least 5 of these are approved by Picwant photo editors, the photographer will be able to sign a contract, becoming a ‘Picker’, and will receive royalties on each image or video sold online. The images and videos uploaded to Picwant remain the property of the Picker and can be creative or editorial: for example, taken in his or her spare time (holidays, hobbies, cooking etc.), or to capturing current events (such as news, sport and entertainment).

Picwant is the brainchild of Stefano Fantoni, former Country Manager of Getty Images Italy, who has over twenty years of experience in the photography industry: “Photography has embraced the mobile world and now, smartphones with built-in cameras are everywhere. There are better cameras on the market, but nothing beats the convenience of being able to take a picture with your smartphone, with amazing quality into the bargain!” explains Stefano Fantoni, CEO of Picwant. “Picwant aims to go beyond sharing and enable anyone to make money using the photos and videos taken with their smartphone.”

Picwant is also a platinum sponsor and member of the jury at the Mobile Photography Awards 2014, the event founded in 2011 to promote and award prizes to the best mobile photography at international level.
