Urgent request for help- imminent deportation of hunger strikers and sick child

A Kurdish TCAR family from Turkey is being deported today DESPITE the fact that their solicitor has put in an application for judicial review. The judge ruled that the application is not enough to stop the deportation. Tyneside Community Action for Refugees is making an urgent request requesting that you phone the duty officer at the airport to log concerns.

Anabelle James and her 1 year old son who were snatched from their home in Bury in a dawn raid on Sunday29 April 2007, are due to be deported back to Nigeria on Wednesday 2nd May 2007.

Her name is Gina Khachatryan and she is being held with her husband VAHAN and daughter ELEN. The Home Office officials took them from Blandford Road, Salford in the early hours of Easter Monday, 9th April. They closed off the street and gave them 30 minutes to pack a few clothes. On Saturday 3rd March 2007 Tyneside Community Action for Refugees (TCAR) joined with Newcastle College Student Union and ESOL staff and students to organise a march and rally against the Labour government's proposed cuts to funding for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). Under the proposed changes, from September 2007 asylum seekers will be totally excluded from English classes, and other will be expected to pay, effectively excluding many low paid migrant workers.
