Manchester Airport and Heathrow residents join forces

Residents and campaigners against the expansion of Manchester and Heathrow airports have joined forces in a show of solidarity between both places threatened by airport expansion. Around 80 people turned out for the launch of the 'Adopt-a-Resident' scheme on Hasty Lane which involved campaigners from across Manchester and across the country pledging to support the residents in their battle to save their houses and that if it came to it – to take direct action against the bulldozers trying to demolish their homes.

Adopt a Hasty Lane Resident!

This February will see the launch of ‘Adopt-a-Resident’ at Hasty Lane, an event forming part of the campaign protesting against the expansion of Manchester Airport. Hasty Lane, home to historic cottages and surrounded by acres of open ground and important ecological habitats, is under threat due to the plans and its residents are facing forced removal from their homes. University research findings called into question over Tesco funding

Research undertaken at the University of Manchester has concluded that loyalty bonuses are a more effective way of motivating customers to re-use plastic bags than to charge for them. However, the independence of this research has been thrown into doubt, raising questions over the £25 million donation received from Tesco by the Sustainable Consumption Institute. Activists Interrupt Coal Supply Destined for Ratcliffe-on-Soar

Today 20 activists from Earth First! (1) stopped work at UK Coal's opencast coal mine near Shipley (2), Derbyshire. The protesters entered the site at 9.20am and climbed on top of machinery, intending to stay as long as possible they are currently occupying 6 vehicles. This protest is part of a campaign to stop new coal mines and coal power stations in the UK. It follows hot on the heels of last week's Climate Swoop at Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station, where coal from Shipley is burnt.
