GYPSIES FACE EVICTION

Gypsies are facing eviction from their own land this week,
despite an all-party commission's recommendation today
(8 Nov) that a duty be placed on local authorities to provide
spaces for caravan parks.
Families at Twin Oaks, Ridge, near South Mimms are now
dug in waiting for Blair to act: will they get a place to go
or see their caravan site bulldozed, as happened at
Chelmsford earlier this year. Read more >>

The Bolivarian Revolution: ENTER THE OIL WORKERS!

July 2004, 34minutes, Spanish with English subtitles, VHS PAL/NTSC
Produced by the Bolivarian Circle of the Global Women’s Strike
Venezuela is the world’s 5th largest oil exporter, yet 80% of its population lives in poverty. In 1998 President Hugo Chávez was elected to use the oil revenue to tackle poverty. In April 2002 a coup against him was defeated by the millions who took to the streets. A few months later the élite and the CIA paralyzed Venezuela’s oil company PDVSA to bring Chávez down. Oil workers took over and worked round the clock to recover production.
In this documentary José Bodas, Luís Felix Marín, Jesús Montilla and Tania Suárez tell how they saved PDVSA and how they are organizing to “put the oil industry at the service of humanity”.

SAY "NO" TO EXPANSION AT CAMPSFIELD: THE HUMAN TIME-BOMB ON YOUR DOORSTEP

lollypop action
Campsfield Immigrant Detention Centre is a place where innocent people are made to suffer. It has a 10-year history of brutality, suicide-attempts, hunger strikes, and
massive protests. In 2002 the Government finally admitted that it was "unsuited to the needs of the 21st century", and announced its closure. But instead, the Home Office has now sent Cherwell District Council a planning application to expand it from 180 to nearly 300 places.

All detention centres are trouble - for the innocent people inside and everyone who lives near them. But big detention centres are real trouble. Read more >>
