The Bolivarian Revolution: ENTER THE OIL WORKERS!

July 2004, 34minutes, Spanish with English subtitles, VHS PAL/NTSC
Produced by the Bolivarian Circle of the Global Women’s Strike
Venezuela is the world’s 5th largest oil exporter, yet 80% of its population lives in poverty. In 1998 President Hugo Chávez was elected to use the oil revenue to tackle poverty. In April 2002 a coup against him was defeated by the millions who took to the streets. A few months later the élite and the CIA paralyzed Venezuela’s oil company PDVSA to bring Chávez down. Oil workers took over and worked round the clock to recover production.
In this documentary José Bodas, Luís Felix Marín, Jesús Montilla and Tania Suárez tell how they saved PDVSA and how they are organizing to “put the oil industry at the service of humanity”.

Invitation to the Dissent! Network Gathering in Edinburgh 17th - 19th September

The G8 (Group of eight most industrialised nations) Summit will be held at Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, about 40 miles/70 kilometres away from Edinburgh, in Scotland from 6-8th of July 2005. In past years, everywhere they have tried to meet they have been met with a massive response from the world's social movements. Now, in Britain, a network of groups and individuals is emerging that resists the Summit, and forms a lasting movement against capitalism.

The next Dissent! Gathering will take place in Edinburgh on 17th-19th September 2004.

Come along and get involved!

News and photos from Afghanistan

A Butcher
So the elections are now on 9^th October 2004. These are the presidential ones.
The parliamentary, district etc elections will be next April or maybe May or
perhaps June or even never (see related articles). Massaoda Jalal, the only
female candidate for president was in UK this week (see articles). From Bush’s
point of view if the elections are going to be relatively peaceful they can be
spun as bringing democracy to Afghanistan but if it looks like they will be a
violent mess then they are likely to be post phoned again until next year and he
can spin how the process of democracy is firmly n place n Afghanistan. Read more >>
