G8: Activists Being Monitored - Border Controls Considered reports Scotsman

Scotsman roundup of security measures re G8 Summit in July 05 - including assertion by Tayside Chief Constable that "known activists" were already being "monitored" by "undercover officers" both in the UK and mainland Europe, and that police are "talking to the Crown about a range of issues... ...including restricting access to Scotland". John Vine, the Chief Constable of Tayside Police said: "In extreme situations we may apply to prevent entry into Scotland".

G8: Scottish Parliament Petition re Policing + Protests

G8 Alternatives are publicising a petition in response to some of the alarming reports about policing plans for the G8 summit protests this coming July is Scotland. The petition demands that riot police equipped with rubber bullets are not used for policing, that venues be provided for protest meetings and accomodation, and that protestors creating their own spaces should be allowed to do so.

G8 in the News

frontpage of todays Edinburgh Evening News. Today the forthcoming G8 summit in gleneagles is in the news again. The Edinburgh Evening news published pictures of riots and stone-throwing, windowsmashing protesters, whileas on the radio it was stressed, that there "would be a permanent security cordon around the Scottish parliament and Holyrood Palace",
as well as 200 000 protesters expected. It was mentioned that the security forces now make preperations to draft in English police forces to Scotland, too.

cops threaten G8 repression

police are preparing to use submachine guns and rubber bullets to defend leaders of the G8 who will meet at gleeagles. they are carrying out training in a mock up village on the site of a closed down hsopital. the closed down law hospital, lanarkshire has been turned into a mock village, complete with its own names, in which to train riot squads.

Kenny Richey's Death Sentence Overturned

Kenny Richey After 18 years on death row in Ohio, Edinburgh born Kenny Richey has finally had his conviction ruled overturned by the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeal. Richey was convicted in 1986 of an arson attack that killed 2 year old Cynthia Collins, but always maintained his innocence.

"FALLUJAH - RESIST THE SLAUGHTER" protests in Scotland

U.S. forces launched a major offensive on Monday night 8th November to regain control over the Iraqi rebel-held city of Fallujah. As of the morning of Tuesday 9th November fierce fighting is taking place within Fallujah. Ground troops are meeting opposition, while US artillery and missile-firing helicopters are pounding city buildings. Many civilian deaths are expected. Meanwhile on Monday another Black Watch soldier was killed.

In response in Edinburgh red paint and anti war slogans were sprayed on the US consulate [report | update and picture]. 100-150 protested in Parliament Square, Edinburgh, while protesters blocked roads in London and demos were scheduled for Monday evening in at least 30 locations Britain-wide. Protests are being called for town and city centres across Scotland from 5pm on Tuesday 9th November. In Glasgow meet in George Square. In Edinburgh meet in Parliament Square, marching on the Scottish Parliament around 5.30pm. Anti war demos are being called for town and city centres across Scotland from 5pm on Tuesday 9th November.

Support at Asylum Hearing, Wednesday 3rd

In December 2002 with much fanfare, several Algerian men were arrested on terrorism charges in Edinburgh, allegedly for plotting an attack on the Hogmanay celebrations. All the men were innocent, the evidence amounted to a scribbled on tourist map, and now they face deportation.
