IWW Informational Picket in Edinburgh

ust a quick report on our Informational picket at Starbucks in Edinburgh yesterday (Saturday 19th).

We (4 wobs, two supporters) chose our ususal target - the High Street branch on the top of the Royal Mile.

The area was teeming with people as it's mid-Festival.

Taxing Times for Inland Revenue Strikers

Tax offices in Bootle, Glasgow, Newcastle, Salford, Wrexham, Cardiff, Portsmouth, Leicester, Bradford and Edinburgh were closed yesterday as up to 8,000 workers came out on strike against plans to make them fill in forms accounting for each hour they work.

Mayday march and rally in Edinburgh

rally and social event at the meadows The traditional Mayday march and rally took place this Saturday in Edinburgh. Several hundred of people marched in sunshine and enjoyed the social event afterwards at the Meadows.
The event was well organised and grassroot non-party political groups were welcome, too.

Strike Rallies throughout Britain on 28th March - Red Tuesday!

Red Tuesday - 28th March will see mass strikes against capitalist attacks in both Britain and France.
In Britain, the strike will be to defend workers pension rights, and will involve 1.5 million workers. It could be the largest strike here since the 1926 general strike.

The IWW’s Scottish Parliament Job Branch has filed a strong protestagainst the Parliament’s decision to strip the Scottish Socialist Party members’ 14 staff of one month’s wages, noting that the decision – taken by the Labour Party majority – violates the workers’ fundamental labour rights.

PROTESTORS PICKET EDINBURGH STARBUCKS

Protestors picketed Starbucks in Edinburgh’s High Street for three and a half hours on Saturday 20th November. Demonstrators served up free zapatista coffee, proclaiming solidarity with the rebel indigenous movement in Mexico and with New York Starbucks workers in dispute with the coffee giant. The action was jointly organised by Edinburgh Branch Industrial Workers of the World and Edinburgh-Chiapas Solidarity Group.
