Candidate Alexander: LAPD Assaults May Day Supporters

Los Angeles police officers brutally assaulted peaceful marchers and supporters at a rally in Los Angeles creating outrage and anger from millions nationwide. Many of the people that were present in the park were mother, children and babies. The cops were seen beating many with sticks on television; people and children that were offering no resistance. Also there were members of the press that were brutally assaulted.

Immigrants: 50,000 March for Immigration Reform

More than 50,000 immigrants and immigrant rights advocates filled the streets of Downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, April 7, 2007, to rally support for fair legislation for immigrants; and to protest against the recent White House plan that will further restrict the rights of immigrants across America. The March and rally was one of the largest in recent months and it further demonstrated the growing momentum of the immigration rights movement.

About 100 people demonstrated outside the Immigration Tribunal in Eagle Building

Various meetings are being arranged for next week to discuss new legal developments for asylum seekers from the Congo. Plus the Scottish African and Carribean Network have organised meetings of some women activists from Zimbabwe in Glasgow on Tuesday and in Edinburgh on Wednesday. More details to follow.

Simclar workers occupy Kilwinning factory

Members of Community trade union employed by the Simclar (Ayrshire) electronic components manufacturer have this morning occupied the company's factory in Kilwinning, North Ayrshire, to protest against the way they have been treated by the Company. This follows the announcement on Monday by the parent Simclar Group that the Irvine and Kilwinning factories would be closing immediately with the loss if 420 jobs.

Protest against the resumption of 'Charter Flights' Manchester 19/01/2007 Reports today show that more than 2 million Iraqi refugees, fleeing conflict in their homeland, are being supported in neighbouring countries including Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Egypt, which are struggling to cope with the exodus. Some countries are preventing refugees from crossing their borders, contrary to international law, and prompting international aid agencies to warn of a humanitarian crisis.
