FAIRFORD: "GIVES A FRIENDLY FACE TO BOMBING'

Philip Booth, Gloucestershire Green party, 10-06-2005 11:27

Publicity about the Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford (RIAT) has been appearing in local libraries and papers in the last week. The tattoo is sponsored by arms manufacturers, but is not strictly an arm's fair (i). However the Gloucestershire Green Party argue it is still about selling the concept of weapons and war as acceptable ways of resolving differences between nations. Greens say 'give it a miss'. Drake's Island occupied - declared nuclear free state

Tamarians, 14-05-2005 17:24

On 13 May 12 anti-nuclear weapons protestors from the Plymouth Trident Ploughshares (Tamarians) along with supporters, squatted Drake’s Island in Plymouth Sound. A peace camp has been set up and the island declared a nuclear free state. The protest highlights the UK’s breach of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which is now being reviewed at an important at the UN in New York. The refit of the UK’s nuclear armed and nuclear powered Trident submarines in Devonport Dockyard plays a large part in Britan’s violation of this international treaty. Read more | 1 comment >>

Disruption and Intimidation in Carterton, Oxfordshire

Simon, 24-04-2005 15:33

Brize Norton Peace Camp banner
“I reasonably believe that it may result in serious disruption to the life of the community or that the purpose of the persons organising the public assembly is intended to intimidate others to do or not to do something they have a right.” - Assistant Chief Constable John Donlon of Thames Valley Police, imposing conditions on the peace march and rally around Brize Norton on 23rd April 2005. UK Election: a vote for peace

Tony Gosling, 23-03-2005 11:42

This is one of the most important UK elctions ever this coming May. And much more difficult to fix than the US ones were. Lets make sure it's not a Blair / Howerd Punch and Judy show and that we use our votes - and access to voting record of our MP's - intelligently for promoting peace and sending the gullible and warmongering MP's down into the dustbin of history. If you agree with my three point voting plan please promote it amongst your UK friends and neighbours. The hopes and fears of countless millions around the world are riding on this one. F15 anniversary - naming the dead

Simon, 15-02-2005 20:52

A pair of boots for each dead UK soldier
"The best way we can support our troops is to bring them home, out of harm's way" - Lord Stoddard of Swindon.

At lunchtime today, anti-war campaigners in Swindon marked the second anniversary of the largest anti-war demonstration in living memory, by holding a ceremony at which the names of soldiers who had died in Iraq were read out. Read more | 5 comments >>

The Truth about Hoggett and Webb – review

Simon, 11-02-2005 00:05

This is a short review of the play “The Truth about Hoggett and Webb”, which was performed at the Arts Centre in Swindon on Wednesday 9th February 2005. The play compresses the story of the 2003 invasion of Iraq and the aftermath into a single day in the office of two civil service bureaucrats, who produce dossiers and reports to support Blair’s case for war. It does an excellent job of unravelling the lies which led us into war, making use of quotes from real dossiers and reports, and in the humble opinion of this reviewer, it should be performed and shown as widely as possible. 7 Feb – Bristol Stop the war...or election rally?

conscious non-voter, 09-02-2005 00:16

Further to your previous newswire report at
http://indymedia.org.uk/en/2005/02/304942.html here's another view of the Bristol STW rally on 7 Feb.
The turnout of 700+ was amazing, and testament to BSTW's ongoing independence and hard campaigning work. However, a lot of people were drawn to see their old MP Benn, and will they have been motivated to do anything else after this meeting?
