Introducing Palestine, Peace Not Apartheid

28-03-2007 07:30 | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | Palestine | World

I excitedly purchased the distinguished former American president Jimmy Carter's new book "Palestine, Peace Not Apartheid" and put it on my bookshelf to read the moment I got the chance. Alas, this book will now surely always sit there gathering dust and unread, because before I could get to it, I read the following account in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz about this book that greatly disturbed me. A new red herring has been cleverly introduced into the discourse space, albeit enlarging it somewhat, but not sufficiently for me to waste my time chasing down yet another distinguished red herring.

Cultural Barbarians are at the Gate

22-03-2007 17:25 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | World

Presently we Iranian are facing two facets of US militaristic doctrine, on one hand, we can see their exercise of hard power and our country being encircled by US armies to the east, west and south. On the other hand, they are constantly flexing their soft power and there is no day that western media are filled with rumour, exaggerated claims and bare faced lie.

The Rebuilding Alliance: Rachel's Work Carries On

21-03-2007 19:29 | Anti-racism | World

Like most IDF crimes, this one happened because the people involved no longer saw Corrie as a human being, but as "the other", dehumanized to the point where she could be killed with no second thoughts.

These killings only highlight the hatred that is indicative of such fundamentalist and racist ideologies.

Killing two birds with one Mohammed

20-03-2007 02:10 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | World

Alas, Khalid Sheik Mohammed has confessed to masterminding the 9/11 attacks at a Guantanamo Bay military hearing. He also took the rap for masterminding more than two dozen other terrorist acts around the world and the murder of reporter Daniel Pearl. As the Pentagon release reported, he said “I was responsible for the 9/11 operation, from A to Z.” So there you have it. It’s a wrap. And who needs to catch Osama Been Forgotten? Rip up the wanted posters and throw away the fake tapes.

The Political Economy of Diamonds

19-03-2007 18:25 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | World

A few years before 9/11, the world's curiously selective conscience was shocked by images from the little West African country of Sierra Leone. To horror stories from Sierra Leone (and Liberia) were soon added those from Angola and Congo. The conflict diamonds (later reincarnated as "blood diamonds," when the original images started to lose their shock value) were already high on the international agenda before the conveniently timed discovery that behind the trade could be found the evil hand of al-Qaeda.

Iraq: What about the ‘surge’ in civilian casualties?

19-03-2007 16:43 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | World

What about the ‘surge’ in civilian casualties? In the media coverage of the American 'surge' - committing 20,000 extra troops to the war in Iraq - there has been barely a word about the likely consequences of this intensified combat for the Iraqi civilian population.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed deconstructed

17-03-2007 10:54 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | World

Raw Story journalist Larisa Alexandrovna has noted a rather glaring problem with the KSM “confession”: he claims to have targeted the Plaza Bank in Washington state—however the bank was not founded until well after KSM was supposedly captured and interned at Camp Gitmo. “I think we can say for quite certain that whomever is being held as KSM was either caught recently or that his entire confession is a fraud,” concludes Alexandrovna.

Open Letter to Amnesty International

17-03-2007 07:52 | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | Terror War | World

Apart from writing terrific looking reports, and with the exception of bringing much sought after relief in few individual cases, what level of global impact has Amnesty International had over the years? Its own ongoing reports on Israel-Palestine are of exactly zero impact, as empirically evident by the continual reality of new faits accomplis being daily constructed on the ground! In Project Humanbeingsfirst's view, this is entirely because the battles are often being fought at the "low order bits of the issues", when "the higher order bits" entirely determine where "the page faults" (in computer science geek-speak). This deplorable failing in our view, can easily be remedied by addressing the issues at the right levels of abstraction.

Divide and . . . divide: Is this colonialism in its final throes?

16-03-2007 23:07 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | World

The sectarian difference between the Sunnis and Shiites in Iraq has been mythologized by American and British propaganda since well before the invasion, and many impressionable Americans now believe sincerely that their forces have become embroiled in a sectarian war that has been going on for centuries.

Israel has been "singled out" is based on what it has done - and is doing - in the Palestinian territories.

"Hitler no longer to be an honorary citizen of Bad Doberan"

Shut Down G8!
Gipfelsoli Infogroup: Right-wing globalization critique must be rejected

Formally, Adolf Hitler is still an honorary citizen of Bad Doberan. He was elevated to this status by town officials in 1932.. Prior to the NSDAP coming to power here, Bad Doberan had been the first municipality to grant Hitler this title.

Heiligendamm, where this year's G8 summit will be convened, belongs to the administrative district of Bad Doberan. The two towns are connected by the Lindenallee (Lime Tree Avenue), which Hitler once praised as "the most beautiful of Germany". The Dammchaussee ('Dam Road'), the road leading into the Lindenallee, was subsequently renamed 'Adolf-Hitler-Strasse' (Adolf Hitler Street).

Israel-Palestine: The endless trail of red herrings

10-03-2007 04:02 | Analysis | Anti-racism | Palestine | World

On the Israel-Palestine issue, unraveling the endless trail of red herrings that even permeates the dissent space precluding a just solution from being perceived by the ordinary peoples in the Western nations, and thus postponing the harbinger of justice to the suffering peoples on the ground. Written in reference to the article by Israeli Peace Activist Uri Avnery on MediaMonitors on Feb 16, 2007, as well as President Carter's book Palestine, Peace not Apartheid.
