In the wake of the Afghan Election: NATO Intensifies Military Deployments, Carna

07-09-2009 09:10 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | World

In Afghanistan, the U.S. is waging its longest war since that in Vietnam and NATO is fighting its first ground war.

Not, never, willing to acknowledge that the Afghan war is in fact a war, Washington and Brussels from the NATO summit in April until now have attempted to justify their troop buildups in South Asia as motivated primarily by insuring that the second presidential election in Afghanistan since the joint U.S.-NATO invasion of 2001 proceeded uninterrupted. A ruthless counterinsurgency and bombing campaign was thus portrayed as another war for democracy.

BNP´s Leader to Appear on BBC Question Timel

06-09-2009 04:45 | Anti-racism | Repression | Birmingham | World

The Fascist British National Party´s leader Nick Griffin may be asked to appear on Question Time, the BBC has said. A spokesman for the broadcaster said it was bound by rules to treat all political parties with "due impartiality".

The BBC has a duty to treat all political parties equally, so it could be said that they are not at fault here, but Griffin´s appearance would pose problems for the Labour Party: they have a long-standing policy of not sharing platforms with Fascists. Will they do a U-Turn here and lend the BNP more legitimacy?

A stop in hell: Pagani, a prison for migrants at the gate of Fortress Europe

04-09-2009 23:40 | Anti-racism | Migration | Repression | World

The Greek island of Lesvos is just a short sail from the Turkish coast – you can see Turkey from the island. Here many migrants try crossing into Europe, usually on inflatable boats. Frontex patrols the coast to prevent them from landing; those who land may be detained in one of the most appalling prisons for migrants we have ever seen or heard of.

"An Existential Threat": The US, Israel and Iran

04-09-2009 08:38 | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | Other Press | World

The Guardian article depicts a deeply misleading picture of the US in the Middle East and the wider world, as we have often explained in our books and in media alerts. We are to believe that the world’s number one rogue state is searching for benign solutions to the world’s most “intractable problems”. This fiction is standard in corporate media coverage.

Why Not Crippling Sanctions for Israel and the US?

02-09-2009 20:32 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | World

Iran is developing nuclear energy, which is its right as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Iran’s nuclear energy program is subject to inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which consistently reports that its inspections find no diversion of enriched uranium to a weapons program.

The position taken by Israel, and by Israel’s puppet in Washington, is that Iran must not be allowed to have the rights as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty that every other signatory has, because Iran might divert enriched uranium to a weapons program.

In other words, Israel and the US defy international law by claiming the right to abrogate Iran’s right to develop nuclear energy.

NATO official: Iran could fire conventional or nuclear missiles into Europe

01-09-2009 18:31 | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | Other Press | World

Daily Telegraph, 2007

Echoing the six-month-long intensive propaganda campaign before invading Iraq in 2003, the leading members of the NATO Alliance (US, UK, Germany, France) and Israel are desperately trying to show Iran as a threat, without presenting a shred of evidence.

Now, an anonymous “NATO official” is claiming that Iran is posing a threat not only to Israel, but also to Europe. Even more astonishingly, after 4 years of constant scare-mongering over “Iran’s nuclear threat”, this official is reverting to Clinton administration’s “Iran’s ballistic threat” propaganda.

America's Tortured Past

31-08-2009 21:44 | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | Repression | World

In his book, "A Question of Torture," McCoy explained how techniques were developed, refined, codified in manuals, used extensively in Southeast Asia, Central America, and now everywhere, including in Iraq, Afghanistan, and at secret black sites globally. A worldwide gulag exists with no oversight or legal compliance - on US bases, torture ships, and in prisons of complicit countries. Nothing is banned, including the most inhumanely harmful abuses.

In office, Obama abandoned his promise to continue America's sordid, tortured past in violation of the rule of law, ethical and moral standards, and everything he swore he'd change.

Israeli Occupation Soldier Shoots Blindfolded, Handcuffed Palestinian Detainee

31-08-2009 20:29 | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | Palestine | World

The Israel Defense Forces officer accused of ordering a soldier under his command to shoot a bound and blindfolded Palestinian detainee failed his second polygraph test on Monday, after having passed the first test in a private institute last week. The results of Monday’s lie-detector test, held under the auspices of the military police, prove that Lieutenant colonel Omri Fruberg, commanding officer of IDF regiment 71, lied in his testimony, and suggest he did in fact give order to open fire at the Palestinian detainee.

Israeli PM Netanyahu: Threats to our existence must be nipped in the bud

29-08-2009 11:18 | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | Other Press | World

Israeli Prime Minister examines blueprints of the Auschwitz concentration camp
This week the leaders of Israel, UK, Germany and US launched yet another joint propaganda campaign against Iran. The aim is to get the UN Security Council to impose “crippling sanctions” on Iran, a step that would ultimately facilitate their next brutal invasion.

Actually, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that it is possible for “the coalition of the willing” to impose these sanctions “even without a UN Security Council decision”.

Meanwhile, the 118 member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) (about two thirds of UN member states) have “reaffirmed the basic and inalienable right of all states to develop research, production and use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes, without any discrimination and in conformity with their respective legal obligations”.

Lesvos No Border camp is banging on the walls of fortress europe

Pagani concentration camp
The No Border camp in Lesvos is scoring some real victories for the migrants who arrive here and are detained in horrific conditions in the infamous Pagani detention centre following the release of over two hundred migrants . We haven't closed this hellhole down but pressure is building . We want to force Greece to respect asylum rights and the free movement of migrants and to refuse its role as Europe's border guard and all terrible abuses and deaths of migrants that entails . Yesterday 22 refugees avoided having to be detained and are now at an open centre with decent living conditions.

The March of Hell. Our Japanese Cousins are some of the most oppressed activists

Photo of a speech using a giant puppet which was also used to protest with.
This network of activists are constantly harrassed more so than our country by ultra-nationalists and police alike. Since I've been here and there is little connections at all between them and Europe. The 15th of August, where 14 war criminals are commemorated alongside the dead. I'll describe what is apparently the most hardcore protest of the year for the left as there's no news anywhere. Kyoto university just had an occupation. Apparently that is not unusual. Why isn't it somewhere? There is a sort of mini Burning Man festival in the countryside next week. A 2 day Anti-Nike event after. They have a 'drifter's` union of young people who drift from cornershop and restaurant shops with no sicial mobility. Nothing like that gets through. Please look at the videos of youtube at the end and read the Japan Times article on the 15th of August demonstration.
