Invitation to the Dissent! Network Gathering in Edinburgh 17th - 19th September
The G8 (Group of eight most industrialised nations) Summit will be held at Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, about 40 miles/70 kilometres away from Edinburgh, in Scotland from 6-8th of July 2005. In past years, everywhere they have tried to meet they have been met with a massive response from the world's social movements. Now, in Britain, a network of groups and individuals is emerging that resists the Summit, and forms a lasting movement against capitalism.
The next Dissent! Gathering will take place in Edinburgh on 17th-19th September 2004.

Action Alert: Help Cancel Showcase of Chinese Army
Every year, Scotland hosts an event called the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, that showcases military bands from around the world. The prestigious event is attended by 217,000 people and broadcast around the world to a television audience of millions. This year, the Tattoo organizers have invited the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).

Goodooga, 20 July - - An Australian Aboriginal sheep farmer and rights activist, Michael Anderson, is taking on the country’s Deputy Prime Minister, John Anderson, for the NSW Outback seat of Gwydir in the coming federal election. Should he win the seat, which he’s contending for The Greens, Anderson would be only the second Aborigine in the national Australian parliament. Australian Aborigines number about 420,000 in a population of 20 million. They are the most disadvantaged Australians. Some claim that many live in worse than Third World conditions in the midst of plenty.

These tribes from Northern California and Southern Oregon evolved with Salmon, which are now being decimated because of the series of dams blocking migration. These dams are owned by Scottish Power.

On Saturday evening a demonstration marched into the direction of the "red zone" to express dissent with the expansion of "fortress europe" and with globalisation of trade, but with non-regards towards the people.

Dissent! Resistance Against the G8: Gathering in Manchester
A Network of Resistance Against the G8: The G8 (Group of Eight most industrialised nations) Summit is coming to Britain in the Summer of 2005. In past years, everywhere they have tried to meet they have been met with a massive response from the world's social movements. Experiences of anarchist organizing in Scotland, leading up to a five-year anti-poll-tax campaign. Includes a look at lessons learned regarding anarchist organizing, anarchist groups, and vanguards.
The talk is broken into 3 parts: 2 halves of Ramsey's presentation and about 30 minutes of discussion afterwards.
[Y note: This is one of the best talks on anarchist organizing that I have heard, and considering the mixed success of the anti-war and anti-globalization movements in the UK today, it seems worth learning as much as possible from past struggles.]
