Bush and Blair Toppled

Poon | 19.11.2003 14:53 | Cambridge

The people of Cambridge gathered in the Market Square this lunch time to witness (and take part in!) the toppling of statues of two of the most dangerous political leaders in the world.

Goodbye Mr. Bush
Goodbye Mr. Bush

...and you Tony!
...and you Tony!

World free from two dictators
World free from two dictators

There were about a hundred people present…similar to the ‘huge crowds’ that tore down the Saddam Hussein statue in Baghdad earlier this year. We were able to do this without the assistance of American soldiers.

Comments were read out from people in the USA who were using UK IndyMedia to send messages of support to anti-Bush activists. There was also an open forum for people to talk about their attitudes to Bush, the war in Iraq and a number of other issues.

People will be reassembling in the Market Square at 6pm tonight for further anti-Bush activities.

Where are all the protesters? All the thousands and thousands of anti-imperialist, anti-american and and anti-bush protesters and all you could get is three individuals posing for the photo?

You need to go back to protest school. The idea is to give the illusion that you are part of a mass grass roots movement. Can't you europeans do anything correctly?

Kelly

Ooooo, you guys got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning :-0

In response to Kelly (the other comments don't seem worth responding to) I'd have no idea where the anti-american protesters are...I don't know any. As for the anti-Bush and anti-imperialist protesters, other than the 100 in the market square in Cambridge (not bad for lunch time on a week day, I thought), you'll find many of them, in their thousands in London.

You can follow their creative activities by looking at the UK IndyMedia homepage at  http://www.indymedia.org.uk/

"The idea is to give the illusion..." That maybe your idea of how the media should work (no great surprise if you are living in the USA or indeed in Britain) but it's not mine.

Have a nice day! :-)

Judging from the ravenous responses that you are receiving from the war criminal collaborators, you must really be getting to them! Keep it up! KEEP IT UP!!! They are gagging in the stench of their own miserable failure, and they are about to fall. Thank you for your efforts! I can't wait for tommorrow!!

Clever comparison

20.11.2003 17:05

Where any of the Cambridge protestors worried that Blair would send troops to their home to arrest, rape, torture, kill their families for their involvment in toppling the statue? With that fact missing the size comparison of the two crowds becomes laughable.

Ruprecht

No Ruprecht, they were not..

The protesters in Cambridge had no such fears, although there has of course been a general erosion of civil liberties in the UK and the US since 9/11 and there are people in prision (and in the concentration camp at Guantanamo Bay) in both countries who have not been charged, have no access to lawyers and are kept in conditions in breach of international law.

Also the Iraqi people who toppled the Saddam statue may no longer be in danger from that (US and UK armed and supported) dictator any, but they are sadly liable to have the US controlled administration "send troops to their home to arrest, rape, torture, kill their families".
