There she goes, my beautiful world...

pretentiousartist.com | 05.06.2007 12:22 | Sheffield

pretentiousartist.com document the changing world... As part of a wider collective named Sheffield Digital Media Group we take images of the abstract (as in not sure what they are), urban (as in the metropolis of sheffield), bucolic (as in the green side of sheffield).

We had no clue about this ice sculpture as part of world environment day. We came across it being put into place on Monday night. We then gathered it would be unveiled at 8am Tuesday 5.6.07. One us on a bike (less carbon footprint) arrived at 7.45am and found ourselves part of a media scrum. These are some of the images we took from last night and this morning.

The aim is to take more as the sculpture, melts away. This is a representation of the melting icecaps and the crisis of global warming. We are shit with words but better with images, there is also a film and we will place this online once we have it edited. More of the stills will appear at pretentiousartist.com..

Fucked up - true enough

05.06.2007 13:36

Yep, you've fucked up alright, but it's nothing with scaling graphics. You've swallowed the propaganda hook line and sinker. 'Man-made' global warming is a statists dream - it legitimises increased state control, a renewed nuclear option and much more. Yep, fucked up is the right phrase.

Must have taken a LOT of fossil fuel energy

05.06.2007 14:12

to freeze a volume of water that large. It is also likely that it must have been bolied first in order to make bubble free clear ice. When are the marketing and PR morons going to realise that it takes more than hypocritical media stunts to tackle the real issues?

scale?

"I know, we've got a really simple message we want to get across to people about the environment, simple but we need it to be BIG, so how about a poster, a billboard, how about a massive telly screen! So how do we get it into town? Well, mwe can use this fuck-off DIESEL truck that exists ONLY TO CARRY MASSIVE TELLY SCREENS AROUND THE COUNTRY and communicate our small, but effective, and now OH SO LARGE message to the population. We'll drive it into town and stick that earth-ice cube round the back, ok, round thr front, yeah, the heat from the truck's fumes would probably melt it quicker, you;re right. Anyway, a good, clear, infomation-a-thingummy. Gosh, aren't we on the pulse!"

No, it's wank.

Carbon Planet

06.06.2007 00:36

The people responsible for the ridiculous waste of resources witnessed today are Carbon Planet ( www.carbonplanet.com/home/ ). After visiting their web site I found it hard to believe it was for real. Here's a quote:
"Carbon Planet's mission is to enable every individual and organisation on the planet to eliminate their global warming impact. We do this with a combination of education on emissions reduction strategies, and retail of properly certified carbon credits."

This is another example of greenwash capitalism, another example of what global warming hysteria is creating - more waste, more pollution and less hope for all of us.

some say the counter arguement against global warming and climate change as put forward in channel 4's documentary "the great global warming swindle" is scientifically weak but i am not so sure.Martin Durkin's film made many serious points and rasied many many doubts not only scientific but also rightly questioned the mainstream media driven and mainstream politically embracing of the climate change lobby's arguement in such an unquestioning manner.there is wide spread passive acceptance of what we are being told.barcodes phrase "greenwash capitalism" is spot on we are even geting to a stage where we as council tax payers are going to have to sort out our own rubbish and be charged for it when it exceedes certain quotas as if we do not pay enough in local governemnt taxation as it is......so there is an examaple of "greenwash taxation" on your doorstep very soon, but that is just one example of the way the state/governemnt/local authority will use this issue to hurt those least able to cope financially as it is.anyone who just blindly jumps on board a bandwagon like this without thinking it through is doing exactly what governents wants them to do....the end of the world is not nye.enviromental degradation needs everyones attention as does ecology but carbon emissions are not the threat to the planet that al gore and co would have you believe.

sheffield as the vanguard of the enviromental movement?

08.06.2007 05:12

As far as as iam concerned having sheffied as the focus for the enviroment is a good thing but i also understand thatr that my person is under threat and as a result i open my arms to anyone currently intoxicated with 0742's words and i implore them to consult with me. Politics is a confusing thing and iam here for anyone that is confused or otherwise.
