There were wide reports of major police brutality when protesters were lead in to the under pass by Picadilly were they were met by rows of riot police and block by riot police at the back, keeping them trapped in the tunnel. The riot police then proceeded to charge the protesters, trambling and stamping on them and hitting them with batons. One man was hospitalised. This was verified in an article on the times online site (see 3rd paragraph) :

and by George Galloway who accompanied by his two daughters was in the trapped crowd, and who the police allowed to leave the tunnel. Perhaps they should be as concerned about beating up and hospitalising normal citizens as they are about unleashing their brutal violence on an MP. Not least when those people are simply exercising their democratic right to protest.

I suggest you try and drain some of your testosterone away as you seem to have a large surfeit of it. Over the last week, you've been doing nothing positive at all but have been spamming this site with numerous aggressive ungrateful comments towards many contributors who are doing their best to keep selfish idiots like you as well as the more tolerant readers informed with the situation on the streets. The only news you seem to want to hear is violence being directed towards the cops. Any intelligent person will recognise that this will achieve little except alienate the public from pro Palestine demos. Believe it or not, the fact that 50,000+ were on the streets and 10,000 or so made it to the embassy is actually more important and newsworthy than a few fireworks and sticks being thrown ineffectually at the police.

Is it me, or is the guy in the top photo also in the bottom photo to the right? He seems remarkably unscathed and untroubled by the police, despite quite evidently attacking them in the top pic and alleged police heavy-handedness.

From my personal experience, the police were restrained for the bulk of the afternoon, but it was clear to most people there that the event was degenerating thanks to a bunch of thugs intent on violence. Those with two brain cells hung back from the front of the crowd and didn't get involved when the inevitable scuffles broke out.

The solidarity movement really doesn't need violent clashes - it's going to put people off turning out to future marches.

Even if you disagree with the tactics of physically attacking the police, only the lowest sort of grass would wish the people involved be arrested. The police aren't a neutral body there to keep the peace, they are there to maintain the status quo.

I often disagree with people over tactics, but I would NEVER wish for them to be arrested. To side with the police is to side with the oppressors.

I can only hope that the posters here hoping the demonstrators were arrested are police agent provocateurs.

When hundreds of civilians are being killed.. while our government is complicit with that... and while Israel brandishes it's self across the media with lies and support from the world leaders while it carries out genocide. People get upset and angry, the bombs are still dropping, the tanks and artillery are moving in. The police have been building up to crushing the protests outside the Israeli Embassy from the very beginning.

I have been protesting peacefully alongside protesters all week at the Israeli Embassy, the only time I've seen any aggression from the crowd is when the police have push and shoved and tried to stamp (often literally) their authority on peaceful protesters.

Be very sceptical about some of the comments on Indymedia as they often come from departments in the Metropolitan police, like the Forward Intelligence Team F.I.T, who are they harass and discourage protesters. It's strange we need that in a free democratic country that was built on freedom of speech.

The only reason the police were restrained for the bulk of the afternoon, if you haven't forgotten that there were FA/Football Matches being played today & the usual Saturday night troubles to attend for whilst you lot cause trouble. So I suspect there were no police back up. Anyway it seem to be a new tactic these day to pick off the trouble makers when things have calm down with a morning police raid...
