Cop on Facebook: "can't wait to bash some long haired hippys up @ the G20."

PC Rob Ward is under investigation but not suspended, for writing on his Facebook page before the G20 demonstrations in London: "Rob Ward can't wait to bash some long haired hippys up @ the G20."

The cop wrote this on April 1 an hour after Ian Tomlinson was killed. before heading up to the G20 demos, where presumably he "bashed some long haired hippys". Seems like anyone with short hair was OK with him though.

The message was removed but it looks like someone spotted it somehow.

Report from the BBC news:  http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8016620.stm
It's also reported in a lot of the national mainstream press.

According to the Sun, he is based at a police station near his home in Enfield, north London.

I have some questions

24.04.2009 18:17

So, he is being disciplined but not investigated for making known his intentions to commit a public order offence? How does that work? Would that be one rule for police officers making unfortunate remarks in poor taste and another for, say, crusty anarchists? Call me deluded but that suggests we are living in some bizzare kind of police state.

If his superiors fail to prosecute him then, surely, it undermines the case against those people in Nottingham who gathered together for a chat?

Rob Ward is a wanker

24.04.2009 19:22

Which - naturally - is not a very catchy or meaningful title.

However, the aforementioned wanker is worth little else besides the emissions of an irrelevant jack off.

Deserve what they get

25.04.2009 10:37

If the lefty, liberal, anti meat, anti war, anti fur, anti authority (until it suits them, usually when they bitch that they have been broken into, or attacked by thugs!!!) balaklava wearing cowards, turn up in mass, to cause vandalism in the name of freedom, they deserve exactly what they get.
I'm not suprised the cop wanted to get a bit of rough justice, good luck to him.
Personally i think the cops deal with rioting protesters too lightly, take the kneecaps of the first line of attack and see how brave the followers are....

If you don't like how this government handles things, go elsewhere, like Russia, or China.
I'm sure they will listen to you with greater empathy.

Pathetic

'if you don't like the GOVERNMENT go elsewhere'? wtf are you on? you seem to be one of the last people in the uk with any sort of respect for the government. after 12 years of this government pretty much everyone else in the country is sick to the fucking back teeth with them. if everyone who disliked the government left the country, you'd have to turn the lights off.

I agree with everything Rob says. A lot of people go to protests for the same reason they go to football games - to have fun with the police.

There only one thing behind the protests: Bad sportsmanship. A ruthless minority of people seems to have forgotton certain good old fashion virtue - they just can't stand seeing the other fella win. If these people just played the game they would get a lot more out of life.

I understand people's concern over the policing - the taxpayer always wants value for money. Thats why they should always insist on the principle of information retrievable charging. Its absolutely right and fair that those found guilty should pay for their periods of detention and the information retrieval procedures used in their interrogation.

At least this would be fair for a democratic society
