www.peacenewsgathering.info

- A workshop with legendary 'Food Not Bombs' co-founder Keith McHenry ( http://tinyurl.com/yc76xqu)
- Report backs from the Gaza Freedom March (www.gazafreedommarch.org)
- Building for the February blockade at Aldermaston ( http://blockawe.blogspot.com/)

- George Farebrother on law, peace and applying pressure
- Afghanistan: Strategies to end the war
- Anti-war art, with PN co-editor Emily Johns
- Radical climate change activism after Copenhagen

The full schedule for the weekend will be available shortly.

Gathering organised by Peace News (www.peacenews.info) in conjunction with Nottingham Students Peace Movement ( http://nspm.wordpress.com) and Notts Anti-Militarism ( http://nottsantimilitarism.wordpress.com).

ABOUT THE GATHERING
Peace News Winter Gathering 2010 has developed out of Peace News Summer Camp 2009 (www.peacenewscamp.info), which created a real sense of liberation for participants. The Gathering is a space of mutual respect in which activists from different groups and movements, who hold diverse views on fundamental issues, can share experiences, information and insights – and can learn more about each other.

WHAT PEOPLE LIKED ABOUT THE PN SUMMER CAMP
Some quotes from Summer Campers:

“The fascinating and engaging discussions, debates and conversations that seemed to be taking place all the time all over the camp. Fantastic networking amongst groups and individuals.”

“Camaraderie, challenge, ideas, stimulation, re-energising, contacts, space for input and importing information, wood collecting, tree climbing, tripod, all ages, relaxed feeling, lovely food, fire.”

“The spirit of the occasion. Also the chance to discuss in depth issues we have been campaigning for/support and of course meeting folk and getting to learn new ideas and about ‘them’ as people.”
“Discussions, relationships, people, depth of thought. LOVED IT!”

THE ACTION ON THE MONDAY (18 JANUARY)
A nonviolent action against a local arms trade company will take place at 10am on the Monday (18 January). Phone 07929 123 314 on the day for location if you have not attended the planning meeting on Sunday.

A map of local arms companies is available here:  http://nottsantimilitarism.wordpress.com/map-of-militarism/

legendary ????

03.01.2010 22:10

in what sense is he legendary? what legends are out there about this guy? i for one have never even heard of him. let't not get into celebrity-worship and idolisation of individuals here, we all contribute in myriad ways and being the first to do something does not make a person more important than those who slog every day to continue a practise.

no gods, no heroes, no masters! lest we forget...

Protest4a trial4elijah Smith@every demo, government are scared of public opinion

05.01.2010 05:40

Free elijah, edo decomiissioner, he has been 12 months without trial on remand, his case would shine a light on it & we could become a real folk legend.
His action happened a year ago during intense illegal bombing of civilians by the Isreali terror forces supplied by EDO with bomb equipment. It would be nice if peace news & the movement made the most of this & supported elijah, there have only been 2 small demos in his support to my knowledge, there needs to be alot more. Elijah is the Mark Barnsley of the teenies.
If we get EDO shut down or properly regulated, this would be much more successful than spreading ourselves thin at dozens of companies across the UK. Good enforced UK Legislation can do more than 10000 activists, EU & especially UN laws arent enforced, though many national laws are, as democratic accountability is still restricted by borders whilst capitalism is allowed to rape & abuse internationally4a quick buck.

Elijah has been held without trial for a decommissioning action which was done to support UN Law which Israeli is repeatedly, offensively & grosely breaking with snipers repeatedly shooting toddlers etc. I dont reccomend this kind of protest myself, but he is v brave to dismantle offensive weapons like this & from what I know wait for the police.
He deserves a trial now!

The authorities are obviously afraid of public opinion& their support of a criminal israeli regime, which is a major cause of & stokes islamic extremisim.
His trial will highlight the murderous crimes being committed by the Israeli army in a war of apartheid, we need to demand a trial for him now at every demo.

Shame on many of these so called "defense" companies, they would soon stop if they had relatives in Gaza.
Elijah your a true folk hero!

Josey Whales

Looks good, In Nottingham alot of food not bombs plant trees not bombs, hope

07.01.2010 06:57

this becomes a group that hits it off more too.
Planting trees is even better than ploughing, healthier& soaks up the carbon, where ploughing churns it up& tree planting competitions are even more fun than firing arrows at Prince John or the sheriff, just about

Getting at local arms traders must continue!!
Getting at local arms traders must continue!!

Local actions create more activists for the wider cause!

@josey whales:
no disrespect to elijah, he is undoubtedly a true revolutionary and defender and fighter for the suffering in palestine. But I must say our 'group', or those that came on our demo, do support SMASH EDO and the decommissioners but we generally often cant get to brighton, or to the prison or the ocurt
Also, we need to do something about our local arms dealers.
Surely getting at all the uk arms dealers is preferable than letting them all get away except one? EDO should be smashed, but so should heckler and koch and the rest. lets stay getting at them, and offer further and unrelenting support to elijah.
