The English Defence League has expressed sympathy with the occupy movement stating that they are also angry about bankers bonuses and them being bailed out by tax payers. They have also never expressed hatred against any groups other than muslim extremists. However many in the occupy movement have expressed strong hatred against the EDL. It is therefore likely that EDL members were the ones who were provoked first. They probably came to look at the occupy Newcastle camp out of interest but were met by a hail of abuse and then reacted violently.
