Shroukie's family LATEST: coach blocked for 5 hours, fingers crossed ...

some of no borders | 24.10.2012 08:46 | Migration

UKBA tried to deport the Saleh family on a privately listed (charter) flight at 8AM, unknown airport. Friends and supporters tried to block the coach taking them out of Cedars family prison. A massive police operation (more than 50 police vehicles counted) got them through. We hope not in time for the flight ...

cedars "family pre-departure accommodation"

A judge granted an injunction then withdrew it after being contacted by UKBA (which is unlawful as they are supposed to go through a formal appeal process). They were due to leave the prison at 1.30AM. They were held up by supporters for 5 hours until 6.30AM, including one person who jumped the fence and locked themselves under the bus. Literally dozens of police vehicles, and dog teams were set on the protestors. One supporter (the locked-on person) arrested, one hospitalised. We don't know yet whether they made the flight.

from "save the saleh family" facebook:

2 hrs ago: Despite the best efforts of everyone at the detention centre, the bus has now left with Mrs Saleh, Ibrahim and Laialy on board. There is not much time for them to get to an airport and check in before 8am though we still don't know exactly what might happen. We will update one we know more. Thank you so much to everyone for all your continued support.

4hrs ago: The person who was under the bus has been cut off and the bus has moved in to the detention centre. We think the family are now being prepared to be put on the bus. This is so unjust...

5hrs ago: Someone has attached them self to the underside of a bus which is at the gates of the detention centre, blocking the exit. This has been in an attempt to stop the family being removed unlawfully. There are also
reports of the police using force against the friends and supporters who are gathered outside the gates.

7 hrs ago: Some friends and supporters have gathered outside Cedars - the Barnado's detention centre - in Pease Pottage in Crawley in support of Mrs Saleh and her children. They said they have seen three people in a window of the centre waving. The friends said there are also many police and police dogs there.

9 hours ago: The judge granted the family an injunction then the ukba got in touch with them and persuaded the judge to cancel the injunction. According to the law, the UKBA should have appealed the injunction properly at court. This should have had 48 hours notice in between. Please, if anyone can help, any solicitors or barristers please get in touch.

call barnardos

24.10.2012 11:28

Still no news on the Saleh family. Why don't we call Barnardo's and ask them if they have any news on what's happened? And on their involvement in events last night concerning people in their "care" at Cedars such as: Fariman slitting her wrists; Ibrahim (a minor) being forced onto the coach.

Barnardo's Head office: 0208 550 8822

More details (facebook):  http://www.facebook.com/SaveSalehFamily

For what it's worth, Barnardo's are supposed to have some kind of duty of "care" to people in Cedars. Deporting someone who has just been self-harming, and using extreme force against minors, are against all their own rules even. They should not get away with this. Also see new report from Her Majesty's Inspector of Prisons about what has been going on at Cedars:  http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/oct/23/g4s-deportation-force-pregnant-woman

barnardos email

24.10.2012 11:35

I am on the phone to them now. They want me now to speak to the people from the media department!.

No one seemed to have an answer!. I have said that this is disgusting as we do not know what happened to the family, etc. I also shamed them for their role in all this.

The latest person i spoke he said that i should send him an email and he could send it to the right people (????). Here is his email address:

Another question for Barnardos...

24.10.2012 13:58

Will Bardardo's "speak out" against the crossing of one of its 'red-lines' this morning:

 http://www.barnardos.org.uk/news/media_centre/press_releases.htm?ref=70802

Point 5 says:

"5. Barnardo’s will speak out if the level of force used with a family on route to or from the PDA is disproportionate to the family circumstance."

And there is clearly evidence of this today.

These 'red-lines' were issued in July 2011 to "set out the charity’s principles guiding its provision of welfare and social care services to asylum seeking families in the UK Border Agency’s new Pre-Departure Accommodation (PDA) at Pease Pottage, West Sussex."

At the time Chief Exec Anna Marie Carrie said: "I am absolutely clear that if policy and practice fall short of safeguarding the welfare, dignity and respect of families then Barnardo’s will raise concerns, will speak out and ultimately if we have to, we will withdraw our services."

Call on Bardardos today to issue a statement on the treatment of Mrs Saleh and her family this morning and to question it's roll in the locking up of children, deportations of vulnerable children and terrorising border regime in general.

Please copy and paste, tweet, write letters, take action, make a fuss, show you care!

A demo.....everywhere?

24.10.2012 14:59

I am really impressed by the support shown towards this family. How about a demo outside of UKBA in Cardiff, in London, everywhere they are. A co-ordinated day of action, just like the good old days.

They cannot get away with this. I fear the determination by UKBA to deport this family so quickly may have been politically motivated, as with former Cardiff comrade Babi Badalov (now safe in France).

They want us to stop loving each other

email mis-spell

24.10.2012 15:08

I hate these bastards who pretend to be good-doers!

That Barnardos email address again

24.10.2012 15:10

Is....paul.ilett@barnardos.org.uk. The other one put on here is spelt incorrectly.
Alternatively, why not tweet at the proud Media Manager: @Paul_Ilett.
And call Barnardos head office: 0208 550 8822

Ask why force was used against a minor, and why a woman who had self harmed only hours before was forced onto a plane, both of these things being unlawful.

More on Fascism

24.10.2012 16:22

The BNP are now targeting the deported family on the campaign facebook page, having linked their supporters to it.

Migration activists and anti-fascists need to unite to combat the far-right and the threat from Governments.

Let's not pigeon-hole our politics, but come to each other's demos and meetings and build a movement based on mutual respect.

Let's beat fascists in the street on October 27th and every-time they try and bring their messages of hate to public spaces, and let's work for a world without governments that try and control our freedoms, including the freedom to move.

United we stand, divided we fall.

Paul Ilett and his twitter account

24.10.2012 16:29

Paul Ilett has locked his twitter account since this morning. Rather amusingly in its "similar to Paul Ilett" section twitter suggests Cllr. Tony Ball - the scummy Tory Councillor from Basildon who will be familiar to those involved with the evictions at Dale Farm. Twitter clearly notices that both work for organisations involved in ethnic cleansing and violent attacks on families.

MP's response - "hundreds of letters phone calls & emails"

>

> Dear all,
>
>
>
> Over the past week we have received hundreds of letters, phone calls and emails in
support of Fariman Saleh and her family. As explained in our initial response to
supporters, the primary focus was liaising between the family and the authorities.
>
>
>
> We were made aware of the UKBA’s removal of the family from Cardiff shortly after
it took place and immediately requested that the Minister for Immigration conduct
an urgent review into the case, given the forthcoming court date and outstanding
evidence. The family were subsequently held in the detention centre whilst this
review took place.
>
>
>
> Unfortunately, despite representations from Jonathan, drawing the Minister’s
attention to his concerns and the hundreds of supporting messages, they did not
change their decision. Our immediate advice to the family and solicitors was to
use any and all legal mechanisms available to them to halt the deportation,
regrettably the injunctions were unsuccessful.
>
>
>
> We will continue to work with (family), whilst the family have been deported, the
appeal is still ongoing. Letters of support are still useful, I regret that due to
the volume of messages we are unable to acknowledge them immediately and we are
continuing to collate them in support of the family.
