Zoos - a case for and against.

ZOOS - TO MANY they are grotesque relics of the Victorian Age when great collectors paraded their trophies to a curious world without television or flight while to others they perform vital conservation work. Every week, new baby animals or born into captivity. Groups have called for the abolition of zoos for decades. Reporter Ted Jeory went to Colchester Zoo in Essex to put their arguments to its French owner.

Case against Girton protestors dropped

The three protesters charged with obstruction of a highway after the protest against the Girton primate testing lab on February 10th have today had the case dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service. To pursue the case was deemed 'not in the public interest'.

Prescott Approves Cambridge Uni Animal Research Site

On Thu 20 Nov, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister approved the planning application of Cambridge University for a primate research facility in Girton because it helps to further government policy. This comes despite South Cambs DC originally refusing it for good reasons.

Crowd gathers to hear speakers before march About 1000 people marched through the centre of Cambridge this afternoon in an angry (but never violent) show of outrage at Cambridge University's continuing attempts to gain planning permission for a new primate laboratory on Huntingdon Road, and the incredible suffering that this would no doubt involve in the name of scientific research.

HLS Report - double overkill!

With the sun shining down a group of around 40 animal righs protestors picketed Huntingdon Life Sciences - the animal testing laboratory, north east of Cambridge. All morning the police had cordoned off fields, blocked roads, and set up heavily staffed observation points at local roundabouts.
