Iraq Cambridge Rail Station Vigil, March 20th.

A Timely Reminder... Yesterday evening from 6:00pm onwards, a small but significant group of local activists turned up at Cambridge Railway Station to remind the public that it was exactly five years to the day that Shock and Awe heralded the start of one of
possibly the bloodiest and longest running Middle Eastern conflict of recent times, so Iraq, aka Gulf War mark 2.

"Women and War" Art Exhibition, Cambridge, 8th-20th March

Opening night is on the 8th at 6pm-8pm. St. Paul's Centre, Hills Rd, Cambridge. Prior to the art exhibition there will be an Iraqi women's group called "Act Together" who are holding an auction of promises from 3pm-5pm.

We will be making a banner at this exhibition where everyone can add their bit. If you have any art materials, poems, quotations, fabric, glue etc. that could be useful for this (and other art work which we will be doing), please contact Charlotte Synge

‘Iraq Oil robbers’ to be challenged by local campaigners - All Welcome!

LOCAL campaigners stage demonstration against UK oil companies profiting from the Iraq war as part of a Global Day of Action to say ‘Hands Off Iraqi Oil’. A few local residents will be dressed as typical ‘robbers’, to represent the oil companies. The staged dialogue between these ‘robbers’ and local anti-war campaigners will explain the relationship between war, oil and profit to local passers-by. socpa 128 Lakenheath 8 trial

A lakenheath plane with bombs dropped painted on the side On 26th 27th and 28th of March 2008 the Lakenheath 8 finally go to trial for a socpa 128 and criminal damage charge. The L8 took action in October 2006 at USAF Lakenheath in Suffolk against the use of cluster bombs and conventional weapons in Iraq and Afghanistan. The 8 activists, Pete, Lesley, Mell, Lesley, Richie, Margaret, Irene and Emma entered the nuclear base and locked themselves to the munitions area gates to stop the loading of weapons onto the F15 e planes. The new at the time 'socpa' laws covered the base and the 8 new that they maximum sentence was a year in prison and a £5,000 fine

Peace camp in parliament square

Last week-end I toddled up to London to participate in a peace camp in Parliament Square. The camp lasted from noon Saturday until noon Thursday, straddling the death throes of the Blair administration and the early wailings of the Brown era (“The King is dead! Long live the… errrm. No, actually, down with the next king too!”)

Lakenheath 8, SOCPA 128, Trial dates

The ‘Lakenheath 8’ Pete, Richie, Mell, Lesley G, Lesley A, Margaret, Irene and Emma now have their trial dates for the action they took last October. The trial will take place on the 6th, 10th and 11th of July 2007 at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk courts.
