Cambridge Atos Are Occupied Again.

Nope, I don't watch Corrie either... On Wednesday afternoon (25-05-2011) for the second time this month, a small but significant crowd of activists converged upon the Hills Road offices of Jobcentre Plus subcontractor Atos, to protest against the brutally arbitrary way they assess sick and disabled people, considering most of their 'clients' to be 'fit for work', even if they're not.

All part of David Cameron's beautiful vision for a fairer and more just 'Big Society', involving asset stripping everything in the public sector, including the Welfare State.

Cambridge Debating Union Besieged as Eric Pickles Visits.

Shock revelation: Debating Union used for public discourse! Yesterday evening (Tuesday 24-05-2011), several dozen protestors descended upon the Cambridge University Debating Union building in response to the society booking Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. An ironic job title if ever there was one, as this man has presided over some of the most brutal cuts to our public services that we've witnessed for a generation.

This is the same man who in 2009 went on the record as claiming expenses for his parent's home, which is just eight miles from his own ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Pickles)!

A bunch of Atos-sers are occupied!

The 'big society' Cameron would rather forget. Yesterday afternoon (Thursday 11/05/2011) at 4:30pm, about twenty five activists turned up to picket the Cambridge offices of a private company now infamous for issuing highly suspect medical assessments, which have seen many sickness and incapacity benefits claimants having their money cut.

Despite there being many sucessful appeals against these decisions (currently a 40% success rate), this company is still being subcontracted by the government to carry out its nefarious deeds.

Their name is Atos, and they currently reside at 24 Hills Road, Cambridge, although they seem to be ashamed to admit it, as there are no signs outside for them, only two for "Jobcentre Plus", presumably the official smokescreen Atos are hiding behind.

Yesterday (Saturday April 9th, 2011) a small but significant group of activists gathered in Cambridge Market Square to lodge their disapproval of the government's current proposals to all but privatise the NHS by devolving funding to local GP practices - a bizarre idea by anybody's standards.

Today (Monday 17/01/2011) about 300 people gathered together on Kings Parade in Cambridge, front of the university Senate House for a silent vigil with Cambridge Academics as a protest against the government's higher education policies.

Many of them were university academics, who symbolically turned up in their black robes to represent the wider body of higher education tutors, whom are affected by the government's cuts to higher education funding.
