The trial scheduled for 26,27,28 of March has been postponed again. There will be a Pre Trial Review on 31 March to set the date for a preliminary hearing and the trial.

LOCAL campaigners stage demonstration against UK oil companies profiting from the Iraq war as part of a Global Day of Action to say ‘Hands Off Iraqi Oil’. A few local residents will be dressed as typical ‘robbers’, to represent the oil companies. The staged dialogue between these ‘robbers’ and local anti-war campaigners will explain the relationship between war, oil and profit to local passers-by. On 26th 27th and 28th of March 2008 the Lakenheath 8 finally go to trial for a socpa 128 and criminal damage charge. The L8 took action in October 2006 at USAF Lakenheath in Suffolk against the use of cluster bombs and conventional weapons in Iraq and Afghanistan. The 8 activists, Pete, Lesley, Mell, Lesley, Richie, Margaret, Irene and Emma entered the nuclear base and locked themselves to the munitions area gates to stop the loading of weapons onto the F15 e planes. The new at the time 'socpa' laws covered the base and the 8 new that they maximum sentence was a year in prison and a £5,000 fine

A few dozen students at the University of Essex came together this week to protest at the military recruiting on their campus. This direct action is part of the University students on going campaign to stop the war in Iraq and stop the University investing students money in the Arms Trade.

Six people are currently blockading the main gate at RAF Lakenheath. Their banner states: Stop the War Crimes Not The Protests. They have photographs that indicate that 492 Squadron from Lakenheath dropped over 1,000 bombs in the recent 4 month deployment in Afghanistan possibly including cluster bombs.

The ‘Lakenheath 8’ Pete, Richie, Mell, Lesley G, Lesley A, Margaret, Irene and Emma now have their trial dates for the action they took last October. The trial will take place on the 6th, 10th and 11th of July 2007 at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk courts.

After more messing around by the prosecution, the trial of the
Lakenheath 8 has been adjourned until the 6th of March. The trial
is the result of an action last October, when the activists entered USAF Lakenheath nuclear base and chained themselves to the gates of a munitions storage area to stop the movement of cluster bombs.

Today, six "cluster bomb inspectors" were in court, charged with Criminal Damage and the new offence of Criminal Trespass (SOCPA 128 - the Serious Organised Crime and Policing Act, item 128). The case was adjourned for two weeks, as the decision to charge was only taken two days ago and the prosecution evidence was only given to the defendants this morning. The case will resume at 10am on the 20th of February.
