Cuts to Bus Services Come to Cambridgeshire Today.

Small but very significant... This morning (Tuesday 31/01/2012) a small demonstration took place outside of Cambridge Shire Hall, but it was about something very big indeed.

In fact, decisions made today in that building will change many peoples' lives forever, as there was a meeting by county councillors to decide which rural bus services are to have their funding cut.

Thousands take to Cambridge Streets on November 30th

A beautiful day... On Wednesday November 30th, we witnessed one of the biggest public sector strikes to take place in the UK since the 1970s, and the people of Cambridge came out in force to support it.

Some estimates place the figure at around 4,000 local people in attendance, although there is no way to confirm (or deny) this.

J30 actions come to Cambridge (part 2).

Heading up East Road, Cambridge... The true scale of the march through Cambridge couldn't be seen until everyone set out to walk through town, and it was a glorious site to behold.

At one point, I saw it stretch from one end of East Road to the other, with still enough of a head to snake it's way around the corner onto Burleigh Street.

J30 actions come to Cambridge (part 1).

Sign outside Job Centre. June 30th 2011 will go down in history as the day that thousands of UK public sector workers decided enough was enough and walked out of work en masse, and up and down the country there were demonstrations and picket lines.

In Cambridge this was represented by many schools closing, a skeleton staff at Cambridge Jobcentre, and picket lines in front of Cambridge Regional College and Anglia Ruskin University (see pictures).

Cambridge Jobcentre 'Redecorated'!

Pretty clear what that says! There was an unexpected new paintjob applied last night to Henry Giles House, the Cambridge Jobcentre on Chesterton Lane.

Persons unknown had sprayed "Fuck work B4 it fucks U" right across the front of the building"!

Cambridge Atos Are Occupied Again.

Nope, I don't watch Corrie either... On Wednesday afternoon (25-05-2011) for the second time this month, a small but significant crowd of activists converged upon the Hills Road offices of Jobcentre Plus subcontractor Atos, to protest against the brutally arbitrary way they assess sick and disabled people, considering most of their 'clients' to be 'fit for work', even if they're not.

All part of David Cameron's beautiful vision for a fairer and more just 'Big Society', involving asset stripping everything in the public sector, including the Welfare State.

Cambridge Debating Union Besieged as Eric Pickles Visits.

Shock revelation: Debating Union used for public discourse! Yesterday evening (Tuesday 24-05-2011), several dozen protestors descended upon the Cambridge University Debating Union building in response to the society booking Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. An ironic job title if ever there was one, as this man has presided over some of the most brutal cuts to our public services that we've witnessed for a generation.

This is the same man who in 2009 went on the record as claiming expenses for his parent's home, which is just eight miles from his own ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Pickles)!

A bunch of Atos-sers are occupied!

The 'big society' Cameron would rather forget. Yesterday afternoon (Thursday 11/05/2011) at 4:30pm, about twenty five activists turned up to picket the Cambridge offices of a private company now infamous for issuing highly suspect medical assessments, which have seen many sickness and incapacity benefits claimants having their money cut.

Despite there being many sucessful appeals against these decisions (currently a 40% success rate), this company is still being subcontracted by the government to carry out its nefarious deeds.

Their name is Atos, and they currently reside at 24 Hills Road, Cambridge, although they seem to be ashamed to admit it, as there are no signs outside for them, only two for "Jobcentre Plus", presumably the official smokescreen Atos are hiding behind.
