Campaigners challenging the reopening of Ding Quarry are investigating the ecological importance of Rooley Moor.

Dismayed by the the lack of hemp on this site

07-11-2007 11:31 | Climate Chaos | Ecology | Indymedia | London | World

this is regarding the serious lack of hemp in the environmental movement. although it would also help just about every other grassroots movement. i would have thought that being alternative media, there'd be something on hemp. i was especially surprised by the sister site  http://climateimc.org/
which throws up 1 article in a search for "hemp". a search on greenpeace is similarly depressing. www.foe.co.uk is a little better. it seems there's more in the mainstream. eg. www.theecologist.org

Mainstream Environmental Movement Closes Ranks : Private E-mails

02-11-2007 12:00 | Climate Chaos | Culture | Ecology | South Coast | World

Below is a copy of an e-mail and a follow up, sent to the heads of the largest environmental organisations in the USA and (in the follow up) their equivalents in the UK. These e-mails have been met with stony silence - the environmental organisations have closed ranks. I am bringing this into the public realm in order to let the public decide who is right...

Fossil fuels should stay underground

22-10-2007 16:42 | Analysis | Climate Chaos | Ecology | World

Citizens concerned about climate change need to wake up to the fact that we can't afford to rely on scientifically dubious carbon offsetting or sequestration, or on bending over backwards to limit our own emissions in the naive hope that the rest of the world will follow suit. The only safe place for the world's remaining stocks of fossil fuels is to stay where they belong - underground.

“RED HERRING” - Al Gore, The Climate Sceptics And The BBC

18-10-2007 18:42 | Climate Chaos | Ecology | Other Press | World

On October 10, the BBC’s Ten O’Clock News led with the story that a High Court Judge had found nine “errors” in Al Gore’s climate film, ‘An Inconvenient Truth’, which the UK government has been sending to schools around the country. As a result, by way of “balance”, the government will now be required to include “guidance notes” with the film. (BBC news online, ‘Gore climate film's “nine errors”,’ October 11, 2007;  http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/7037671.stm)

The Atmosphere Is Not For Sale

04-10-2007 13:26 | Analysis | Climate Chaos | Globalisation | London | World

I feel like an eco-fraud. There’s me thinking that we should be protecting the land, the sea and the atmosphere from the profit motives of large corporations, and then a big group of like-minded people come along with a signed document saying the opposite and repeatedly hit you round the face with it.

No War, No Warming, Rise Up!

20-09-2007 10:13 | Anti-militarism | Climate Chaos | Ecology | World

For months a movement has been developing that consciously and intentionally links the related issues of the war in Iraq/oil wars and the heating up of the earth that is disrupting the world’s climate. On Monday morning, October 22, in Washington , DC on Capitol Hill and elsewhere around the country, that movement will become visible as large numbers of people engage in nonviolent direct action to disrupt business as usual. We will be calling for an end to this criminal war and strong action to slow, stop and reverse global warming (  http://www.nowarnowarming.org/ ).
