Paxman interviews Chomsky

A short interview with Noam Chomsky, including transcript and video stream (Realplayer, low bandwidth). Jeremy Paxman, conducting the interview, is obviously trying to do what he can to hit Chomsky with the "tough questions", in notable contrast to his extremely subservient interview with Tony Blair before the war started...personally, I'd appreciate it if Mr. Paxman would secure another interview with Mr. Blair and ask some real questions this time.

Mutiny!

Can we please stop calling it a quagmire? The United States isn't mired in a bog in Iraq, or a marsh; it is free-falling off a cliff. The only question now is: who will follow the Bush clan off this precipice, and who will refuse to jump?

When Fucking The System Isn't Enough

Experiences of anarchist organizing in Scotland, leading up to a five-year anti-poll-tax campaign. Includes a look at lessons learned regarding anarchist organizing, anarchist groups, and vanguards.

The talk is broken into 3 parts: 2 halves of Ramsey's presentation and about 30 minutes of discussion afterwards.

[Y note: This is one of the best talks on anarchist organizing that I have heard, and considering the mixed success of the anti-war and anti-globalization movements in the UK today, it seems worth learning as much as possible from past struggles.]

Who's Capitulating to Terror?

Since the bombings in Madrid on March 11th and the subsequent removal of the government in Spain, consumers of mainstream media have become used to references to `the Spanish capitulation to terror' and `votes for appeasement'. Within the UK, the Daily Telegraph has been particularly vociferous in its condemnation of the Spanish electorate's decision to oust Aznar's government, but they have certainly not been the only ones.

Occupation, Inc.

The giant steam turbine at the Najibiya power plant is quiet. If the Russian engineers who built the original equipment over 30 years ago stopped by to take a look, they might have a hard time recognizing the machinery: over the years Iraqi engineers have replaced many of the original blue parts with a patchwork of white and grey makeshift materials.

Kabul by Submarine

[Introduction by Tom Engelhardt: At this point, Afghanistan is certainly the forgotten war and the forgotten "nation-building" project. As Ahmed Rashid, superb reporter and author of the authoritative book Taliban, has written recently in the New York Review of Books, there's a reason why. Most of the country remains a failing non-state. Rashid recently went back to Afghanistan, essentially to retrace a trip he took in 1994-95 when he first covered the Taliban, a bizarre movement largely created by the Pakistani intelligence services and jihadis whose oppressive version of "Islam" bore little relation to anything Afghans had ever known.

Hoon contradicts his Hutton evidence and invites a host of questions

When Geoff Hoon was interviewed on Radio 4's Today programme on 5th February
2004, he claimed that not only was the Prime Minister unaware before 18th
March 2004 of the precise nature of the 'WMD' claimed to be deployable
within 45 minutes, but also that he himself was unaware until after the
publication of the dossier in September 2004.
