A Timely Reminder...Duplicity Reigns!

Our Illustrious World Leaders! It seems wholly appropiate in this G8 week to make musical comment on our illustrious 'World Leaders'.

Even more so, given the events of the last day or so.

So here, for your delectation is a little tune wot I wrote a year or so back, telling you exactly what I think of careerist politicians.

CONDOLENCES OF THE ACTUS AFTER THE DEATH OF PRESIDENT FRANÇOIS-XAVIER VERSCHAVE.

The President François-Xavier Verschave, is one of these rare Big People, honorable. Profoundly human, he was until the last breath, an engaged activist and fearless defender of the African, humbled continent, exploited and crushed by the French imperialism, the françafrique.

G8 Bribery

The mainstream media’s response to the announcement that the G8 had agreed to cancel $40 billion dollars in debt for eighteen countries in third world, mainly African, was of sheer awe at the magnanimous generosity of the leaders of the world’s richest nations, who had found it in their loving, Christian hearts to offer a favor to the childish and confused citizens of Africa.

Iraq-o-mat: Cleaning Dollars for Corporations

Corporations profiting from Iraq Much of the post-war corporate activity in Iraq has come under heavy criticism from many different fronts. There are accusations of corruption, bribery and nepotism as well as simple incompetence - the jobs just aren't getting done... So what is all the `reconstruction' activity in Iraq really about? Supposedly post-war Iraq is a neo-liberal utopia, an economy freed of the tiresome and inefficient burdens of government regulation. Yet an examination of this same economy may lead one to conclude that the system as it stands is rampant with inefficiency. Indeed Iraq's economy today looks less like an economic utopia than a giant money-laundering operation...

Fire Bombs in Iraq:Napalm By Any Other Name

This briefing examines the continuing use of incendiary weapons
("napalm") by the US military in Iraq. While the UK government has
attempted to downplay or deny the use of incendiaries in Iraq, US
officials have been forced to admit using the MK-77 incendiary, a modern
form of napalm. The UK is party to an international convention banning
such weapons where they may cause harm to civilians. In Iraq, UK forces
are part of a coalition which does not adhere to internationally agreed
standards of warfare.

MEDIA IMPARTIABILITY A MITH

Amid ever more aggressive criticism of our ‘democratic’ mass media the question we should ask is whether our media’s much vaunted impartiality has become blatantly partial over the last years or whether the mass media has always been the serf of particular interests, interests camouflaged as the struggle to preserve the freedom of ‘our’ democratic world.

Revolt of the Unpeople in Brussels

We are on the train from Cologne to Brussels to cover Mr. Bush's visit to the European Union for Indymedia UK. Newsstands and websites display pictures of happy European statesmen - Jacques Chirac looking aggressively relaxed during the handshake - and the talk is of rapprochement, a new partnership between America and Europe. Like a bad song or an awkward lover, Mr. Bush declares to the assembled notables that “no power on Earth could ever divide us.”

Robert Fisk Interview - Middle East in 2004

ROBERT FISK: Well, I think that the whole project in Iraq is finished. We are not being told by Mr. Blair in my case and Bush in yours that this is the case, and perhaps through their own misjudgment or their own fantasies, they don't even accept this themselves. But the American project for democracy or whatever its real purposes were, for oil, economic expansion, Middle East fit for Israel, whatever it may have been, that project is finished. It is hopeless. It cannot succeed.

Who's behind the oil-for-food scandal?, MUrdoch, Conrad Black and the Neocons

His "smoking gun" was the news that Kofi Annan's son received payments of $150,000 over several years from a company that was a contractor in the oil-for-food programme.

Where did this news come from? The New York Sun, a tiny newspaper founded by Canadian mogul Conrad Black four years ago as a mouthpiece for the neo-cons.
