Cambridge campaign aims to stop climate change

The Cambridge Simultaneous Policy Adopters Group will be holding a public meeting with the title: "Achieving sustainable energy use" at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 7th January. Dr. Jonathan Köhler will present information on the problem of climate change - blamed in part for the freak weather experienced around the world in recent years - and ways to address it. John Bunzl, author and Director of the International Simultaneous Policy Organisation, will discuss how campaigners can compel politicians to bring in the changes necessary to guarantee our future survival.

Contributors are being sought for a film about the last six or seven years worth of campaigning against the introduction of genetically modified crops. If you have video footage of demonstrations, protests, office occupations or direct action, please let us know. Climate Change Social Forum strongly supports ratification of Kyoto

The final discussions of the Climate Change Social Forum, organized by one Russian and one American NGO, came out strongly in support of Russia’s ratification of the Kyoto Protocol. Attempts by the World Conference on Climate Change (WCCC) Chairman Yuri Izrael to derail the process failed and prompted an impressive speech by one of the participants on how Russia would benefit from the Kyoto Protocol. Some of the quotes by Izrael were: “Voting is for the miserable.” “Presidents change but the truth prevails.” (he was in the cabinet under the times of the Soviet Union) and “Let’s not waste time talking about the Kyoto Protocol, when it will never come into effect anyways.”
