Non GM Potatoes planted at Hedon test site

Protesters are planting non-GM potatoes in the field near Hull where BASF intend to trial their GM potato variety. About 100 protesters are spread across the large (several acre) field, with two mounted police and 2 foot police standing by watching - not even filming, for once.

Update: 2 cops on off road motorcycles have entered the field.

GM Crop Trials - Protest

The first GM Crop Trials in years are getting underway in Cambridge. This is widely being viewed as a test of public opinion and if we let these trials go ahead with little or no opposition, more GM trials, and eventually commercial growing will be here before we know it. Contrary to previous announcements, the BAYER Group has entered into international trade in toxic waste. For the time being BAYER plans to incinerate 4,500 metric tons of highly toxic hexachlorobenzene from Australia, for which the company will receive three million euros.

Petition Power - Online petitions to PM concerning animals

This site is a government website where people can start petitions for the Prime minister to take into account. The anti road charging petition being in the news recently because the government are taking on board that 1.5 million people have signed it and it would therefore be unpopular for them to bring this in. This is a potentially great opportunity for people who care about animals to have their say. It is especially important because the Hunt supporters have a petition to scrap the hunting act 2004, which now has 28,000 signatures. We must show the strength of feeling against hunting and support for the ban being tightened.

Stop the Export of Australian HCB Waste to Europe for Incineration!

Orica Australia is proposing to export 22,000 tonnes of highly toxic hexachlorobenzene (HCB) waste to Germany. The waste is supposed to be incinerated in Leverkusen, Dormagen, Herten and Brunsbuettel. Two of the incinerators are run by the Chemical company Bayer.

MAYDAY CRITICAL MASS - CAMBRIDGE

There will be a Critical Mass bike ride around Cambridge on Saturday 29th of April. Meet on Parkers Piece, opposite the Fire Station @ 11am.

Bikes and other non-polluting forms of transport are very welcome.
