Landbouwactiekamp 5-10 July Den Bosch, The Netherlands

18-06-2012 12:43

agriculture action camp
From the 5th till 10th of July in Den Bosch in the Netherlands, ASEED will organize a 6 days long camp. The camp will involve workshops, trainings, discussions, and action, for good ecological initiatives, an alternative food chain, alternatives to industrial farming, and against gentech and meat industry, and more..
Do you know where your food comes from? Do you want to take food in your own hands and make the food chain shorter between the farmers and consumers? Do you also want to know more about the struggle against GMOs and industrial farming that is dominated by big companies? Do you want to organize actions against the meat industry and the imports of animal feed? But you are also interested in producing your own food on a sustainable, climate neutral, autonomous and social way? Are you not afraid of getting your hands dirty in a workshop? All of these and more will be covered during the camp. We invite activists, slow-foodies, farmers, gardeners, students, animal friends and people who want to learn and share skills on sustainable agriculture to come to the camp. Mark your agendas and join in!

Last year the first Agriculture Action Camp in The Netherlands took place in the Flevopolder with 70 participants camping on an organic farm for three days. We had a program full of workshops and discussions, and two actions close to the camp against GM crops and soy greenwashing. The participants opted for a replay, so here comes the second camp once again with an interesting programme of workshops, trainings, action and nice atmosphere.

'Green Wave' Rio Eco Protest

16-06-2012 20:55

Saturday 16 June 2012

At 3.00pm on Saturday, people gathered in front of the Council House, Market Square with banners leaflets and a samba band.

The event was to coincide with the UN Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro (Rio+20).

A 12min video of the event: 'Rio' Eco protest. Nottingham

http://youtu.be/itbi_b0wr5M

The UK government thinks a 'green economy' means selling off the world's natural resources to the highest bidder. Instead ask your MP to support a Rio-UK Declaration for a fair green economy.

They asked people to bring anything green to wave and as the clock struke, to 3.30 wave it. The Samba band started and a small crowd gathered, Dance, handed out leaflets, and enjoyed themselves.

The UN Conference:

"About the Rio+20 Conference

At the Rio+20 Conference, world leaders, along with thousands of participants from governments, the private sector, NGOs and other groups, will come together to shape how we can reduce poverty, advance social equity and ensure environmental protection on an ever more crowded planet to get to the future we want.

The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) is being organized in pursuance of General Assembly Resolution 64/236 (A/RES/64/236), and will take place in Brazil on 20-22 June 2012 to mark the 20th anniversary of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), in Rio de Janeiro, and the 10th anniversary of the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg.

The Rio+20 Conference It is envisaged as a Conference at the highest possible level, including Heads of State and Government or other representatives. The Conference will result in a focused political document."

'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire' farce: the Brooks/Cameron texts we didn't see

16-06-2012 14:10

Audio
Only one SMS text was revealed at the Leveson Enquiry which decended into farce when Prime Minister David Cameron’s wife Samatha rang in to ‘remind him’ about the frequency of meetings with Ms. Brooks over lunch. All “hogwash, they’re all in the dirt on this”. Why has the whole Murdoch family not been arrested and charged? The big fish are being protected and the small fish are being thrown to the sharks at Leveson enquiry which is being stage managed in a US style for TV.

Save Care Homes & Day Centres - Sign Petition Now!

16-06-2012 12:55

this is a bristol indymedia story

Bristol & District Anti Cuts Alliance (BADACA) have launched an e-petition opposing the closure and privatisation of Bristol City Council's remaining care homes and day centres for the elderly and vulnerable. The aim is to get more signatures than the council will get for any of the bogus 'options' in their consultation. You can see the council's online questionaire here. Our petition will be presented to the Cabinet meeting on July 26th along with the results of the council's own 'consultation'. BADACA will also present a statement to the Cabinet meeting, based on the document adopted by the steering committee last Monday. You can read the document here

Please sign as soon as possible and forward details to anyone you know who may sign.

The petition reads:

We the undersigned believe that the three options given by Bristol City Council in their consultation on the future of care homes and day centres for the city are unacceptable. Coming on top of the privatisation of the home care service and drastic cuts in grants to the voluntary sector, all three options will further undermine services to the elderly and vulnerable in the city. We call on the city council to retain all these care homes and day centres 'in-house', giving a proper publicly provided and publicly accountable service to users and their families.

You can sign it here. The full link is http://epetitions.bristol.gov.uk/epetition_core/community/petition/1904

carnival of dirt (part 1 of 3)

16-06-2012 00:55

at st paul's this morning there were around 200 activists from more than 30 international activist groups. led by a new orleans funeral jazz band, they began by laying coffins at the gates to paternoster square where the london stock exchange deals in the profits and pension funds of major corporations responsible for worldwide misery. the ceremony was meant to celebrate the people who have tried to stand up to the huge mining and extraction dirty industries, many of them losing their lives, or livelihoods in doing so.

-----

a quick write-up and some pics from this morning's carnival of dirt protest in the city

the cortege then walked round to the front of the stock exchange in newgate street, where they blockaded the doors for a short while and listened to speeches, before moving on to the bank of england, and more inspiring words from some of the many groups represented.

next, the crowd moved on to the london metal exchange where the names of the dead were read out, beginning with ken saro-wiwa in nigeria, and continuing with just a few from a very long list.

research has shown that over the last sixteen years, more than ten million have died in mineral wars, targetted killings, and militia battles directly connected to mineral and oil extraction world-wide. that is the equivalent of a 9/11 event every two days. and yet it hardly ever makes the mainstream news.

leaving some coffins at the metal exchange, the procession moved on to the altab ali park in whitechapel for shared lunches and some more speeches and music.

throughout the morning there were a ridiculous number of undercover "operatives" following the activists. we discovered that many of these work "on behalf of the corporation of london", although whether directly or through some other private security agency we are unclear. we'll be posting more on this over the weekend.

later in the day there was a street theatre action outside glencore commodity traders, and a carnival party to finish the day. (separate reports and pics)
