The Foundry closed its doors on the 30th of May, forced out by property developers who plan to build a luxury hotel on the site. On the 8th of June, a group of people squatted the building and transformed the closed space into a social centre.
This group is now under threat of eviction, and has been told that bailiffs will arrive on Monday morning to clear the building for demolition.
We want to defend this space: Not only for its history and role in art and culture not only in order to prevent the hotel from being built, but to experiment with a space free from market forces.
Don't leave Shoreditch to the rich!
Resist its final transformation into a gentrified hub of lifestyle boutiques, luxury hotels, and chic restaurant chains!
We need your help on Monday at 7.30 am.
We need as many people as possible outside the building to defend the space!
Arrive from 8pm Sunday night-
Bring FRIENDS/NOISE/TENTS!
See you in the streets...

‘For anyone who loves animals this film is a ‘must see’. It takes an objective look into the cruel world of fox hunting and the people who continue to break the law in order to satisfy their lust for animal blood. A real eye opener. You owe it to yourself and to wildlife to see this powerful film.’ Michael Groth Producer/Presenter the AM Show.

Stop that train!

An evening about train blockades / hold ups and the Malicious Damages ActAn evening of film and discussion about direct actions on the railways against climate chaos and nuclear power at the Kebele Social Centre, Robertson Road, Easton hosted by Bristol and Bath Rising Tide.
Come earlier and enjoy a cheap meal at the Kebele Cafe - 6.30 onwards
Recent weeks have seen 18 activists from Bristol and Bath Rising Tide arrested following a blockade of the railway from the Ffos-y-Fran opencast coal mine to Aberthaw Power Station. 30 years ago on July 8th activists from Bristol, Bath and Stroud held up a nuclear waste train bound for Sharpness Docks where the waste was being loaded onto a ship to be ultimately dumped into the Atlantic. In 2008 climate change activists held up a coal train bound for the giant Drax powerstation. In all three actions the activists arrested were charged under the Malicious Damages Act of 1861 - a Victorian piece of legislation that still carries a maximum sentence of life.
Come and hear personal accounts of the actions, see a film of the Sharpness train hold up and discuss the pros and cons of putting your neck on the line!
I Eat Dinner With Murderers: An Essay On Vegetarianism and Animal Ethics
25-06-2010 19:58
This is an article I wrote on my blog a while ago. I discuss my opinions on animal rights, and talk about how I have approached these views and the principles they are founded on. In short, through application of preference utilitarianism and empathy, we should not kill or cause harm to other animals.Shell due to start work next week
