G8 Day 2: Thursday 7th

imcistas | 07.07.2005 04:51 | G8 2005 | Repression | Social Struggles

After a long day on the streets [Personal Accounts: 1 | 2] the people that slept at the eco-village awoke to being surrounded by police on the second day on the G8 meetings at Gleneagles. The police stated they had no intention of invading the eco-village, but were concerned about "more disruptions". People were barely allowed to leave the camp all day, with police only letting small groups out at a time if they provided personal information. The police used Section 60 as justification, effectively halting movement from the eco-village. By five pm all actions from the camp had been cancelled and there was consensus to not resist the blockade today, although at times tension rose high as people demonstrated in front of the police lines. However, the anarchists did challenge the police to a football match and claimed victory when the police did not play.[Pics of Eco-Village 1 | 2 | 3]

Meanwhile in Edinburgh, prisoner support actions took place in the early afternoon at Saughton prison near Haymarket station accompanied by Seattle's Infernal Noise Brigade. There was also a spontaneous prisoner support rally in front of the Sheriff Court where at least two people were arrested [pics]. More solidarity actions are planned for tomorrow Friday 8th July. [Prisoner Support Statement | Wombles targeted in Glasgow police operation]

In Glasgow, six people locked down to Weir Pumps, one of the first companies in the UK to win contracts in Iraq. On the other hand, and following explosions in the London tube today, bomb threats were also made and responded to in Edinburgh.

Cops watching the crowd

In an attempt to prevent protest in Scotland, police have surrounded the Stirling Campsite - the Ecovillage - and have been searching the car park and surrounding area using torches. Meanwhile, demonstrations against the G8 are continuing elsewhere.

A demonstration in solidarity with those arrested [legal update] took place at 15:30 outside the Sheriff court in Edinburgh. The police seized upon the opportunity to make 2 further arrests in a provocative way, and the demo was broken up. Another solidarity action is sheduled for tomorrow 8th July -- 3:30 to 4:30 outside Saughton jail, 33 Stenhouse Rd.

Section 60 powers

07.07.2005 10:43

Section 60 does *NOT* give police the power to demand name and address, read any documents you are carrying, or to search for anything other than weapons.

Therefore if they are requiring these details to leave a section 60 cordon, they are presumably committing false imprisonment. Not that this surprises me, of course...

Day two for freedom

07.07.2005 11:28

n answer to your question and to make my point a little clearer for those of you who watch too much TV... As the quite physical embodyment in the Stirling landscape of the concept of freedom (and a shared culture of rebellion against oppression) I have decided to speak out and help educate both the angry Scots who are visiting this site and the protesters who have fallen into an obvious trap.

The similarites between Gleneagles today and the battlefield where I sit on my horse are:

Both areas of conflict were prepared well in advance with a series of measures designed to defeat the advancing
army. (English Knights/protesters)

In both cases The English Knights and the protesters are compelled to enter the well prepared trap due to their complacent self-belief and belief in rules that do not exist (English knights beleive in the laws of chivalry and the protesters believe in their right to protest, the international human rights laws and local laws regarding the treatment of British citizens and visiting internationals).

In both cases the prepared forces (Bruces army/ G8 security forces) know that there are no rules and that they have free reign treat the advancing crowds as they please.

In both cases an obvious trap is set,

Bannockburn... apparently open ground between the Scots and English is in fact full of coutermeasures to injure horses and troops and the ground is far softer than it appears thus bogging down the initial charge by the English (who were forced to charge uphill due to the battleground being well prepared). The Scots also hide a large number of thier own troops drawing the English in with overconfidence.

Gleneagles... an obviously weak fence (compared to Genoa) is built surrounding the conference center in order to tempt the protesters to breach this dummy defence. Once the protesters breach the fence the security forces are free to do as they will to them. The security forces have the equipment (military helicopters, riot gear, surveillence technology, a communications center in full control of the action, and should they feel the need specialised weapons) they have the numbers (oh yes, they have plenty of back up civilian and military). And now that BOMBS have started going off in London (apparently) they have authorisation and preperation to implement martial law at Gleneagles and in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling and many other places.

I got a report two days ago that a prominent Seaport on the west of Scotland, nowhere near Gleneagles was absolutely full of riot police ready to shut down the sea link to Ireland. Their vans, over 100 of them are all parked in a local primary school playground. Ready for the call.

Now I seriously hope that all TRUE SCOTS can hear me. I'm sitting on my high horse overlooking a wee bit hill and glen and being stuck in one place thinking for a long time gives you vast insight. I will be here for a while yet and I hope that at some point in your life you will all come and visit me. Who knows some of you may even join me.

Police seaport blocking
07.07.2005 11:37

'I got a report' How can you get reports if your a 80 foot high statue sitting in Bannockburn Keith?

Amazing to hear all these people who are getting 'reports' of happenings. Utter bullshit if you ask me, just my opinion which I am entitled to I think. Am I?

The seaport scenario has nothing to do with the G8 summit at Gleneagles. The seaport scenario is a security issue regarding an orange order parade which is happening in Alloa on Saturday Keith. There are 18,000-20,000 people arriving or participating on that march Keith. The 'blocking' of the seaport is another falsehood. There are around 10-20 police at the seaport in question.

Keith your not the only person who lives in or around the Stirling area, your not the only one who knows history of Bannockburn, quit acting like you are and you do.

Finally Keith, please don't take my writings as insulting or making fun because I can assure you it's not meant to be. It's serious.

Recreation man

Listen silly
07.07.2005 11:54

The seaport I was referring to was Troon, which has nothing to do with orange order marches. Right now as I speak there are 100 police vans in Troon Primary playground ready to shut down the Sea Cat service to Ireland and Secure Prestwick Airport. What sea port were you referring to my ignorant friend?

I got the report from the statue of Justice who is situated on Troon seafront. I am freedom... justice and I work together.

I suggest you educate yourself a little better.
Alex

......In addition I'd like to add that anyone who does live in the Stirling area or knows their history is very welcome to join me in pursuit of freedom.

Mr Recreation man, I am very serious. In your message you did not seem to have a counterpoint other than a reference to a seaport near Alloa, and telling me to shut up.

Please respond when you have a point.

Alex

Alex

I am beginning to think you are the horse rather than oor Rab. Is that blinkers you are wearing? Surely the king of scotland would know where Alloa was with it only being 5 miles up the road from where you sit and that it had no seaport? Enjoy the sound of the bigot orange walk this weekend drifting on the wind.

Dear Ms X

07.07.2005 13:28

Perhaps I am the horse, its so difficult to be sure, I certainly do not claim to be king of anything. This week I am the personification thrice removed of historical freedom, situated on a hill and trying not to blink lest I scare the natives. Next week I am planning to be centuries old graffiti scratched into a wall in Latin down a back street in Sicily... saying nothing new, yet comprehended by few. After that I may take a break from politics and inhabit the last mouldy remains of the final Dodo to have lived, from there I will contemplate extinction and evolution.
Then maybe I will look through the eyes of Churchills statue for a few days and watch them reap the whirlwind.

I wasn't sure if our provocative friend was referring to Alloa with its fantastic beer festival, Alloway near Stranraer where I feel he was implying or Alloha a fantastic greeting from the Pacific area.

Perhaps you will join me on my travels Ms X and we can be the lyrics of an old folk song together. Hocus Pocus, Jack and Jill, we all fall down... do you understand any of those Ms X?

You know what Rab sitting on my back would say, "Its quite difficult to move around in all of this Chain Mail"

police checking all trains back from stirling to edinburgh

07.07.2005 15:16

I have just returned from edinburgh waverly station, where about 50+ London met guys were awaiting the train in from stirling. they had police cameramen too, and 1 dog. there was also a riot van in hiding.
I overheard a policeman saying that this was going to be happoening all week.
They were stopping and searching all protesters by the looks of things.

Also, talked to a guy who had been in stirling and he reported that things were peacful and chilled when he left, mainly due to the events in London.

Yoo Hoo Andy!

07.07.2005 16:56

You clearly are a one track minded crackpot Andy and clearly you have some sort of input on this website who deletes others postings yet keeps your own up to show how fantastic you are, well in your own mind anyway.

Once again:

The police are in attendance at Troon seaport as there are many orange order bands and followers ariving there.

The police in attendance in Troon seaport are nothing like the 100s you claim but more like 10-20.

The orange order monkeys are in Scotland to attend a march in Alloa, Central Scotland on Saturday.

The art of getting to Alloa, Central Scotland.

(1) Getting on the ferry at Belfast, Ireland.
(2) Getting off the ferry at Troon, Scotland.
(3) Getting on transport at Troon, Scotland.
(4) Getting off transport at Alloa, Scotland.

Four easy steps. Simple and plain terms. Understand now or it still to technical for you?

Your clearly a wind up merchant intent only on trying to wind people up. Look forward to the posting dissapear shortly!

Have fun!

Recreation Man

Andy? Are you really recreation man?

07.07.2005 17:49

Hmm, Interesting. I know nothing of this march which you speak of and refuse to comment.
I have my sister, niece and girlfriend at the gates of troon primary right now and they assure me that there are around 70 full size marked vans parked there now. I realise this means your numbers don't add up but I have no idea how to resolve the situation. I did manage to cache the whole site just before they pulled down yeaterday and todays fascinating discussion and I will post the whole thing again elsewhere shortly. I have nothing to do with this website, it's censorship policy or the management. I can only assume they are leaving some of my posts up and deleting others because as you say, claiming to be a statue and arguing that black is white do make me seem a complete nut.

Interesting to me though is the fact that my assertion that no little girl was injured yesterday was vindicated by the Indymedia operation in a statement and a quote from one of my postings places me as an Indymedia volounteer.

Now you, call me by a different name and accuse me of being the censor again, implying my involvement in Indymedia. Fascinating. I'm beginning to see how this system works. What fun. I'm afraid I would find it repugnant to work with a group who use Indy in their name. It's simply not cool.

Have a lovely evening Mr Recreation. Whoever you are I'm sure you believe you're doing the right thing.

Put up an email address and I'll send you a photo of the vans in Troon.(if I can get one, anybody?)

Alex

Andy is a network administrator, and pandy is a weatherman

07.07.2005 19:04

Thanks all you guys on the East Coast of Arizona Bay. You've taught me more about Indymedia in two days than I could've learned by joining the local Kollektivvv.

Does anyone know what's going on at the eco-camp. My two daughters said they were going there but I cant seem to get any real news, with the mobile phones being down, the main media outlets being corrupt and this webposting being taken over by frankly rude comments from arrogant layabouts. Where is the real information please.

Well done Indymedia in your fight against censorship... Wink, Wink.

Think I'll skip the anti-roman graffiti next week and give you fresno types a theoretical visit instead.

Lexicon Smith

Alex (again)

07.07.2005 22:49

So you know nothing of this orange order parade march which I speak of Alex? Interesting seeing it’s only a few miles up the road from where you reside, or tell us you reside.

The orange order bands and supporters are coming into Scotland through the seaport of Troon and travelling to Clackmannanshire.

The monkeys and apes are arriving by ferry from Belfast and travelling to Clackmannan. That is why the police are at the Troon ferry port and not as you have said in a previous posting as some sort of G8 exercise.

As you may well think I am telling porkies I trust the following website link is of use to you.

Clackmannan Council
 http://www.clacksweb.org.uk/transport/orangewalk/

As I say it's interesting to note that you know nothing of the apes march considering it's a few miles up the road from where you propose you live.

So Alex are you really from the Stirling area or are you really talking through your arse?

Recreation man

A change of tack after London bombing?

07.07.2005 23:11

I'm wondering if theres a need to rethink stratergy after the London bombing.
Judging by the mood of the country the spicker side of protesting its going to go down well, but there is a great oportunity to bring up issues on the reasons leading to the terrorism. There is so much similarity in the way the west has treated the islamic states and africa and our climate.
