TOTAL petrol station demo in Chester

On Saturday 5 January, in solidarity with the National League for Democracy (NLD), the Burmese monks and the oppressed people of Burma, members and supporters of Wrexham Women for Peace held a demonstration at the TOTAL petrol station on Hoole Road, Chester, calling for a general boycott of TOTAL until it severs its links with the Burmese military junta. First day of the Women´s Gathering in La Garrucha

Compañeras from the five Zapatista Caracoles, among them children, shared their testimonies of how they were living under the landlords rule before they got organized. They spoke about the process of the struggle to gain more participation in all areas; in education, health, community responsibilities, and high level military ranks. They also commemorated the important work of Comandanta Ramona as an example of struggle to be followed. Read more >>

Women’s rights, sexual and reproductive health and….revolution?

Since 1994, the Zapatista's have placed women's rights and participation at the centre of their social and health agenda, including the promotion of sexual and reproductive rights. Today the Zapatistas run a health system autonomous from the Mexican government that includes community educators, trained midwives, community clinics and an autonomous hospital. This transformation is promoting women's sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Demonstration Defends Freedom Of Protest

Video
On Monday this week, Merseyside Police arrested and assaulted an animal rights activist outside Cricket on Mathew Street, a shop that sells fur products. This followed an incident where a Bolton activist was found guilty on a 'section five' for photographing cops on a demo. So yesterday afternoon, around twenty of us showed solidarity and supported the regular Saturday picket of the Cricket store, and scored a bizarre victory over an aggressive and incompetant police presence. Liverpool Vigil To Support Freedom Of Protest

There is a candlelit demo on Saturday 22nd at Cricket, Mathew Street 1-3pm in support of animal welfare and human rights/civil liberties, in particular to support a fellow activist from Bolton who was recently found guilty of section 5 for photographing police officers for evidence gathering purposes during an incident at Cricket and fined £500. What happened to me this week only further strengthens the need for as many people as possible to attend and stand up against the oppressive behaviour of the police who seem hellbent on stifling legal protest. I really feel that this campaign is becoming as much about defending what little right to protest we are still 'allowed' as much as Cricket selling fur. It would be great if people could bring placards highlighting the human rights aspect of the demo. Read more >>
