Dissent! Resistance Against the G8: Gathering in Manchester
A Network of Resistance Against the G8: The G8 (Group of Eight most industrialised nations) Summit is coming to Britain in the Summer of 2005. In past years, everywhere they have tried to meet they have been met with a massive response from the world's social movements. Now, in Britain, a network of groups and individuals is emerging that hopes to resist the Summit, and build a lasting movement against capitalism.The next Dissent! gathering will take place on the 24th/25th April in Manchester. Experiences of anarchist organizing in Scotland, leading up to a five-year anti-poll-tax campaign. Includes a look at lessons learned regarding anarchist organizing, anarchist groups, and vanguards.
The talk is broken into 3 parts: 2 halves of Ramsey's presentation and about 30 minutes of discussion afterwards.
[Y note: This is one of the best talks on anarchist organizing that I have heard, and considering the mixed success of the anti-war and anti-globalization movements in the UK today, it seems worth learning as much as possible from past struggles.]

Cambridge against the G8?
The G8 (the leaders of the richest and most powerful nations) are holding their annual meeting in the UK in 2005. In keeping with the commitment of people around the world to oppose the policies that come out of such meetings, a network has been set up to co-ordinate resistance to the meeting next year.See

Etera 2 meeting, March the 25th 2004 in Sennigallia, will be the second meeting of the Telestrade or Telestreet. A national movement of micro-tv stations (sometimes transmitting to no more than a few blocks) scattered across Italy. Telestreet operates between the legal and technological cracks of the Italian mediascape. Literally squatting the shadows or blank spots where the signals of terrestrial broadcasters cannot reach, leaving shadows on the spectrum which the Telestreet groups occupy.

Last Sunday and Monday, The Balata Refugee Installation came to Cambridge. The installation consists of artwork, photos, film and writing by and about the people living in the Balata Refugee Camp in the West Bank, Palestine. The Installation is currently on a tour of the UK, Sweden and the US.

Call to Initiate a Social Forum Process for the East Anglia / Regions
This proposal was originated and endorsed at the recent AGM of Colchester Peace Campaign, attended by around 40 people. Activists from local movements resisting war, racism, GM crops, the commodification of education and privatisation, plus others, wish to initiate / join / expand the social forum process amongst movements in the east Anglian / Essex region.

Yesterday evening, the second Israel-Palestine dialogue session took place in Cambridge. These dialogue events have been jointly organised by Kolot Shalom (Voices of Peace) and the Cambridge University Palestine Society and represent an innovative and worthwhile attempt to address one of the major conflicts in the world today.

Cambridge Bail Circle Launched
A new organisation to help asylum seekers detained at the Oakington reception centre has been launched this week. The Cambridge Bail Circle is made up of local volunteers who object to the Government’s policy of locking up asylum seekers who have committed no crime while their applications for asylum are being considered.
