Report of anti-BNP march in Leeds

Somewhere between 300 and 500 gathered by Leeds Art Gallery today (Saturday) to oppose the BNP after their electoral success in Yorkshire and the Humber. Despite the police refusing permission, a march took place in which Anti-Fascists briefly reclaimed the streets of Leeds.

BAE systems blockaded for Role in Gaza Siege

This morning activists from Break the Siege! blockaded BAE systems factory in Middleton, Manchester. Using motorbike chains and D-locks they obstructed the plant by sealing off several entrance points. A banner was also hung which read: ‘BAE profits from the siege on Gaza’. This direct action was a response to a call for a day of action by the No Borders network.

Ismail Cherbal and Safia Aouf, nationals of Algeria, and their British-born children Sonia aged four and son Aya aged 15 months have lived in Blackburn, Lancashire, for almost five years. They are currently detained in Yarl's Wood Immigration Removal Centre and are due to be forcibly removed from the UK on Thursday, April 16th at 09.45 hours on British Airways flight BA894 to Algeria.

On 21st March 09, Manchester No Borders and other groups held a protest in the city centre on Albert Square, before travelling to the airport. Over 70 people took part, calling for an end to immigration detention and for the closure of Pennine House.
