Police created an elaborate set-up in an attempt to arrest a man tonight (Monday 10th Sept) in connection with the arms trade protest set to take place tomorrow Indymedia has learned.
The man known as Spook had managed to obtain a pass which allowed him access into the Arms fair which is being held at the Excel centre, East London - he had been planning to secretly film proceedings inside the Docklands conference venue.
Earlier in the day a man had phoned Spook suggesting he could get access to some discreet cameras and arranged to meet at Victoria station at 9.30pm. When Spook arrived a quarter of an hour early, a man approached him, and after confirming who he was, he explained that they would have to go to his car to get the equipment. As they made their way to a vehicle two men grabbed him by the shoulders and said "Police, your under arrest". Spook, who was wearing Rollerblades managed to release himself from their grip and took off down the road. Two police cars appeared with lights flashing and pursued him. He then spent 45 minutes making his getaway which included going up several one way streets.
