An interesting event on Thursday 20th May at Ravensbourne College, open to all. Speakers: Fravia, Richard Stallman (founder of The GNU Project) and Cory Doctorow from the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
This event could be a contribution to the ongoing debate about communication rights. Here's a blurb:
"Copyright was developed in the age of the printing press, and was designed to fit with the system of centralized copying imposed by the printing press. But the copyright system does not fit well with computer networks, and only draconian punishments can enforce it.
The global corporations that profit from copyright are lobbying for draconian punishments, and to increase their copyright powers, while suppressing public access to technology. But if we seriously hope to serve the only legitimate purpose of copyright – to promote progress, for the benefit of the public – then we must make changes in the other direction." — Richard Stallman
Directions: Take a 20 minute trainride from Charing Cross, Waterloo East or London Bridge to Elmstead Woods station, where a 10–15 minute walk awaits.
If walking, at Elmstead Woods Station go left out of the car park, up Elmstead Lane, and take the second turning on the right into Walden Road. We are at the top of the hill, on the left.
