the struggle of political prisoners in Chile

Demonstrations and police brutality in the struggle for the freedom of political prisoners. Chile recently saw the political prisoners undertake the longest hunger strike in this country´s history.

New demonstration for political prisoners in Santiago.
Around a hundred people met infront of the National Library, to participate in the march called for 7pm by the Encuentro por la Libertad (Gathering for Freedom).

A massive police contingent ´protected´ the library and the entire course of the protest as it passed through Alameda, toward the palacio de la Moneda, where it was broken up by police water cannons: an act of extreme violence, used even against the press. At the end of the mobilization one person was detained, who was returned to liberty during the night.

The mobilizations have not and will not cease despite the end of the longest hunger strike of hunger in our history (74 days), and with the public discussion generated after the ´vote of pardon´ (of political prisoners), where the Right voted against, with the intention of reforming the project to its convenience to leave the torturers and assasins of the military state unpunished.

With this demonstration it is clear to all that the spirit inside and out of the jail is to remain strong, warlike, until each one of the political prisoners can once again walk in the streets.
