Being Unemployed

Persephone | 11.05.2005 22:48 | Culture | Free Spaces | London

The developers and council are not interested in community, but they need to be able to say they have 'consulted' with local people, to sanction their plans.

Yesterday i went round to a few hostels/drop-in centres in King's Cross, to find out if it would be possible to carry out this survey/questionnaire the King's Cross Community Development Trust are paying Communities in Focus to do. And this time, i was not prepared to do outreach on the streets for them and Camden council. This time the frontline service managers i met had no hesitation in telling me where to get off. Momentarily shocked, i realised all i could do was feed their views back to both the development trust and council. They'll probably pay me for an afternoon's 'debriefing' session.
