Solidarity actions of activists and unions against G8


Four years after Genoa 2001, activists in Greece are organising Days of Action against G8 in solidarity with demonstrators in Scotland.


On 1st of July, Campaign Genoa 2001 organises in Pireaus with the Union of Dock Workers a Day of Action with music and a demo against G8.

The union has been on strikes and "working to rule" for the last 20 days and they decided to start a permanent strike from 30 of June resisting government plans for privatization and dissolution of their union. The union participated with a delegation to the magnificent mobilization of thousands of greek demonstrators who took part in Genova 2001 against G8.They are proud that in cooperation with their counterparts from Genova and Marsaile coordinated in european strike that stop deregulation policies of EU for the ports.

In Athens, Salonica, Giannena in 10 areas large concerts and demos are organised by Campaign Genoa 2001 and Stop the War Coalition on 1- 2 of July.

Main slogan is Make poverty and war history, stop neoliberal agenda of Karamanlis, the greek prime minister who attacked pensions of Bank Employees.

Bank Employees extended their strike until 30 of June arriving to
the forth week of strike. The government plans to vote a Bill but
the Union insists that they will not accept it and they will block
it practically and legally.

A delegation will participate in demos on 2 and 6 of July in Edinburgh and also to the countersummit of G8-alternatives.
