G8 police repression already started

IFA | 30.06.2005 12:40 | G8 2005 | Globalisation | Repression | London

Police repression has already begun in the run up to the G8 summit protests.

Police have already begun their campaign of intimidation in the run up to the G8. people at the Institute For Autonomy social centre in Gower st, central London, are being systematically stopped and searched as they enter and leave the building since 9am this morning. There are 3 vans of police parked outside.

They are being search under section 1 PACE (police and criminal evidence act 1984)which gives the police the power to stop and search for "stolen and prohibited articles" although 'reasonable suspicion'is a necessary requirement to make the search lawful.

So far no-one has been told what evidence or 'reasonbable suspicion'the police have to justify searching everybody entering and leaving the building.

Again we see this an an extension of police repression (following on from the Faircord coach kipnapping and Mayday 2001 7hr detention at oxford Circus)in an attempt to ciminalise, intimidate and harass those they consider 'political'.

We urge anyone anyone with camcorder to come down and film the proceedings.
