me | 01.12.2005 18:56 | Anti-racism | Repression | London

Just heard about this and not too sure of its political stance (sounds pretty statist), but haven't seen anything on Indy and it is a pretty big thing to show solidarity for - Aboriginals in OZ are treated like shit and the government don't seem to bat an eyelid.. international pressure can't hurt... heres their press release

The Long Walk in London 2005

24 November 2005 - (ENIAR) - Media Release -The Long Walk in London (UK) on 4 Decemebr 2005. This year's event follows on from indigenous AFL legend Michael Long's walk in 2004. There are events happening all across Australia, with the main one taking place in Melbourne.

ENIAR has decided to organise a London walk to demonstrate our support of the objectives of the Long Walk - an acknowledgement of indigenous Australians' ongoing disadvantaged position within Australian society, fundraising for the Sir Douglas Nicholls Fellowship for Indigenous Leadership, and support for a unified Australia.

In London the Long Walk event will begin at 1pm on Sunday 4 December 2005. Those interested in walking should meet out the front of the National Film Theatre on South Bank by 12.45pm. The route we will be walking will take us across Westminster Bridge, along Whitehall to Trafalgar Square, and then along the Strand, finishing at Australia House.

Participants will be invited to make a donation (sugggested amount £5). All monies raised will go directly to the Sir Douglas Nicholls Fellowship for Indigenous Leadership.
