Hackney Cafe re-occupied

Ivan Agenda | 30.12.2005 08:37 | Social Struggles | London

Whilst the organic free range Turkey was being chewed on for a second day running in homes around the country, Francesca's cafe in Broadway Market, Hackney was being reoccupied for the second time.

On the 21st of December police and bailiff's came to evict this local occupation, highlighting what people see as an emblem of Hackney council's corruption throught the selling off of property within the borough. Boxing day saw the occupiers back in.

The initial work involved tiding the rubble which lay on the floor from the last eviction as the place was internally demolished. This hasn't stopped Tony Platia's helpers (the former resident) who have since made the place into a functioning space again.

Show support on Saturday (Market day) if possible
