The first national student anti-sweatshop week of action will take place 11-18 February 2006.

FIRST NATIONAL STUDENT WEEK OF ACTION AGAINST SWEATSHOPS, SATURDAY 11-SATURDAY 18 FEBRUARY 2006

No Sweat and Students Against Sweatshops will be coordinating actions, discussions, film shows, alternative fashion events and speaker tours during the first ever national week of action against sweatshops, 11-18 February 2006.

The week of action is being backed by the National Union of Students (NUS), which is affiliated to No Sweat.

Speaker tours will include a representative of the workers’ committee which runs the occupied Zanon ceramics factory in Argentina plus showings of Naomi Klein’s film The Take (about the factory occupation movement).

We can also offer/arrange speakers and film showings on: the ‘gas and water wars’ in Bolivia; how to support the new unions in Iraq; the fight against Haiti’s sweatshops; Arcadia’s record (Top Shop etc); Tesco, Wal Mart and the supermarket bosses. We can also provide No Sweat/SAS speakers, films etc.

We can help you set up events on your campus. Why not find some bands to do a Rock Against Sweatshops gig, hold a meeting, film showing or fashion show to highlight the issues?

We invite student activists to make plans and contact us to sign up and get involved. Phone Josh on 07764 498 410, Daniel on 07961 040 618 or Laura on 07890 290 479, or email us at  admin@nosweat.org.uk

- For details of the day-by-day themes and activities planned by No Sweat and SAS during the week of action, plus briefings on many of the issues involved, visit the No Sweat website.
