Sitting down outside Downing St

dmish | 05.08.2006 15:14 | Lebanon War 2006 | Anti-militarism | London

Presently there are about 150 people sitting outside Downing St, while a pile of children's shoes is growing on the inside of the gates.

A loose police cordon has formed around the people sitting, but it is presently still possible to get in and out of the cordon. The Rhythms of Resistance samba band are entertaining the sitters.

Many people going past have been throwing childrens shoes (and a few teddy bears) over the downing street gates. There is quite a pile by all accounts. People have been asked to bring children's shoes to leave at the Cenotaph, but they have obviously decided that they would rather leave them at the door of those responsible. And Blair is definitely complicit.

The police have moved in. They have arrested 2 people (seen being led away with hand cuffs) and there are between 30 and 50 people resisting the police move.
