ken livingstone faltered through a prepared speech as demonstrators booed him. he faced several large banners as he spoke to the small crowd. the mayor of hackney also received a frosty reception. protestors are angry that long-established small businesses in the area have been closed down by developers in league with council officials, and gillett square is seen as the public relations face of aggressive corporisation of the area. one banner complained that low income life is being ejected from the area, and another used the word 'regenecide'.
