Since the new year, three new social centres opened in London. The first of those, known as RAMpart2 has already been left empty after the owners were granted an IPO. The new Hackney Social Centre has also lost its court case already and has an eviction date set for the 15th April 2008. There is also a new womens run social centre opened shortly before the international womens days, which also has its eviction date set for April.

These newly opened social centres in London have followed meetings aimed at initiating new spaces and co-operations between groups.

The new Hackney Social Centre experienced unlawful attempts at eviction early on with police trying to smash their way into the building. A phone tree soon had over 30 people there to defend the space. The space now has an eviction date of the 15th April, although obviously it may last longer.

The womens space also put out an urgent call for assistance when they had a visit from police in the first couple of days.

RAMpart2 opened in Whitechapel on new years eve as a backup venue to the rampART which is under threat of eviction. However the new space was quickly served with court papers and has now been left empty following the granting of an Interim Possession Order on Thursday the 20th March.

Meanwhile, the rampART itself is still open, more than four months after being served papers and getting on towards four years since being opened.
