Somalian protest against US-backed Ethiopian invasion, 15.06.08

Alongside the more talked about anti-Bush protest in Parliament Square on Sunday was another less well-known protest, whose protesters were happy to be swept up by the anti-US throng.
This was the Somalian protest against an Ethiopian invasion into their country- an invasion which is publicly backed by the USA because they see the Somalian rebel leaders as dangerous terrorists associated with al-Qaida.

Images of people in London determined to show their solidarity with the desperate people in conflict-riven Somalia.

The Bush administration sees the Somali rebel leaders as dangerous terrorists - potentially part of the 'Axis of evil'. Meanwhile when natural disasters occur, China is the first to pledge aid...

Only time will tell how long parts of Africa are made to choose sides by America and/or China in a worrying parallel with what has already happened in much of Asia.

One thing is clear though - the stories of the people involved need to be told, and the situation in countries like Somalia, Syria, Iran etc needs to be analyzed properly by independent media so the global community has as much of an idea what is really going on as possible.
